mkblue Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Hi EveryoneWe have a 53 plate C8 which we love, but she is not so well at present :mellow:She is not holding water? We have taken her to our local garage and they cant find any leaks anywhere? They have not ruled out a blown head! but it is not the type of job they can doSo I am asking the following questions; Is a head a common fault?Does it point to a head? Are there any people that have had the same issue and what was the outcome? I thank you in advance Blue Quote
paul.h Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Which engine is it and how many miles ? I have had head gasket failure on many cars over the years as the mileage went up and replaced it diy. If this is the cause of water loss, look for mayonnaise in the coolant tank, on the oil dipstick, oil filler cap, more steam than usual from the exhaust pipe, coolant stains down the engine block, bubbles in the expansion tank. Other possible leaks are the hose connections, air vents (may look like tyre valve caps), the radiator, the cabin heater matrix (there may be a burnt curry smell in the cabin), the water pump, the expansion tank cap not holding pressure. If it is the head gasket and you have a diesel, there are often problems removing the fuel injectors so some garages will not touch them. There are posts on here about it. Quote
