I wonder if any member knows how to do this. If I were going  to move to mainland Europe and I took my car with me, is it possible to change the instrument display to the metric system? That is, KPH and distance to Kilometers. It would be rather convenient to be able to do so via the setup facility and therefore be able to change at will.

Or would that involve having to change major components?

Thanks in advance folks.

From the handbooks for a 2010 C4 mark 1 and also mark 2, if you use the radio menu and personalisation - configuration, display configuration, choice of units, then you may be able to change to kilometres. If not then a visit to a dealer should do it using their diagnostic equipment.

There is a current topic of a C4  car moving from Germany to the UK and asking what changes are needed - the 2 mentioned are headlight beam adjusters (from MOT manual masks are ok) and the rear foglight (from MOT manual has to be in the middle or the offside - so the rear lights need changing if only 1 foglight).http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21144-making-a-left-hand-drive-c4-picasso-uk-road-legal/?do=findComment&comment=76714

Hi Paul.H,

Thanks very much for that. I will have a look in the car and see if there is an option available. Regarding the headlights, I was aware of the difference but I thought one had to change the whole light fitting. Be nice if that is not necessary. As for the rear fog light, I imagine that that is an asy fix.

If you only have one fog light the rear lights will need to be changed and the wiring will not be right so would need to be changed. Your dealer may be able to get ones for left hand drive if they are diferent.

Yeah, Regarding the rear fog lights, my car has one on one side and a reverse light on the other side. So, if i change the reverselight lense to a red one and wire it to the fog light circuit, then I would have symetrical fog lights at the back and that becomes legal, as far as I can tell. I'll need to get that verified but that is my thinking. I've also seen a few headlight beam options. Changing the whole unit or fixing another cover over the existing one or glueing on some fancy little things. I'll play that one by ear a bit later.

I did have a look in the car at the setup option and one can choose metric or imperial units. But it appears to be only the distance and fuel consumption units. I'll try it today and test drive to see if the speedo indication changes as well and will post the results here.

OK, just tested it and it changes everything over to the metric system. Odometer indicates Kilometers, total distance is Kilometers and speedo indicates Km/hr. So, with a lense cover, rea fog light modification and metric selection on the setup the only thing different is that the steering wheel is still on the right side. (Need to make a suggestion to Citroen - :-)

I also read somewhere that in France you have to have two breathalyser kits in the car and two reflective jackets. I wonder if one also needs reflective triangles?  I thought with the European Union rules everyone would work to the same requirements. But it seems there are still a lot of individual regs just to keep us all from getting too laid back.

I am not sure about this but I think the breathalyser may be on hold and the no. of high vis jackets/vests may be for each passenger as well as the driver. I carry a high vis vest in a door pocket since it has to be available without getting out of the car - only used it once when somebody bumped our car on a motorway and put it on before getting out on the hard shoulder.

If you wear glasses you may also need to carry a spare pair in the car to the right prescription. There will also be a set of bulbs.

It may be better to get a set of new rear lights, then you will keep a reversing light for your benefit and other road users. They may not be too expensive - for a mark 1 C3 they were £51 each from a dealer which was not much different to Eurocarparts - except I tried ones from Eurocarparts and the pattern ones did not fit so had to go back. The Eurocarparts site shows C4 rear lights at about £40 depending on make - but you will want left hand drive ones and will need to try your dealer.
