ianlittle Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 hi my name is ian, I have had my c3 for nearly 6 years with not too much problems the usual wear and tear but the other day drove half a mile and the red temp light came on i thought i had low levels of coolant but was shocked to find the coolant reservoir full of thick black oil. The engine is clean and both the oil cap and dipsticks are clean no sign of water. The car still runs perfect so iam a little stumped ive had conflicted answers such as oil coolers and head gaskets. my baby is a c3 1.4 hdi 68hp and the year is 2005. has anyone else had the same problem. thanks Quote
paul.h Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Welcome to the forum. It could be an internal leak in the oil cooler (on the oil filter housing) or the head gasket. To check either will involve some work. The high temp light may have come on since oil has a lower specific heat and is thicker than water so will not remove the heat from the engine/head as well. Once the problem is sorted all the oil will need flushing out of the cooling system. Quote
paul.h Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 A quick look on the internet shows oil cooler prices as from £38.99 on ebay and £113 from eurocarparts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C1-C2-C3-C4-XSARA-NEMO-BERLINGO-1-4-HDI-1-6-HDI-OIL-COOLER-1103K2-/370983806165?_trksid=p2054897.l4275On top of that you will need a few litres of anti freeze. Citroen dealers sell the usually recommended Glysantin G33 for a competitive price. Quote
