citrophile Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The factory fit electric sunroof on my wife's VTR has become very sticky and now won't even open. The motor starts to run but then stops when it can't actually move the mechanism, probably as it has a cut out to avoid damaging the motor. Had a similar problem a number of years ago and the dealer did some fiddling around and lubricated the mechanism. I suspect the mechanism just needs a good clean and lubrication but the Haynes BOL is no help as it just says it's too complicated and difficult and to take it to a dealer. Does anybody have any thoughts on how difficult this is or if possible can they post any instructions on how to do it. Cheers Rob. Quote
paul.h Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 There is an initialisation procedure that may help: ESSENTIAL : The time between the different initialisation stages is 5 seconds, the operator should be aware of the entire procedure.CAUTION : If the time between the different initialisation stages is more than 5 seconds, then the initialisation procedure should be restarted from the beginning.1. Applies toPerform an initialisation procedure in the following cases :Position zero "0" of the rotary button does not correspond to position zero of the reduction motor (roof closed position)The sunroof does not open using the rotary buttonThe sunroof does not close, because of the anti-pinchCAUTION : The battery voltage should be higher than 13 volts (keep the engine running).2. Re-initialisation procedure (sunroof reduction motor initialised)Place the rotary button on position zero "0".Wait for the sunroof to fully close or stop.2.1. 1st case : The sunroof moves rearwards (anti-pinch)Perform the following operations :Wait 5 seconds, after it has stopped moving rearwardsPress on the rotary button until the sunroof closesMaintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button2.2. 2nd case : The sunroof stops (open position)Perform the following operations :Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (to trigger the reduction motor relay)Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button2.3. ReinitialisationPerform the following operations :Place the rotary button in the maximum open positionPress on the rotary button until the sunroof reaches the maximum open positionMaintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary buttonWithout pressing it, place the rotary button directly on position zero "0" (if the sunroof moves, recommence the re-initialisation procedure)Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (the movement takes place after 1 second)Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button3. CheckPlace the rotary button on the different positions to check that the sunroof opens and closes sequentially (if there is any anomaly, recommence the re-initialisation).4. Initialisation procedure (new reduction motor)Perform the following operations :Place the rotary button on position zero "0"Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (to trigger the reduction motor relay)Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary buttonPlace the rotary button in the maximum open positionPress on the rotary button until the sunroof reaches the maximum open positionMaintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary buttonWithout pressing it, place the rotary button directly on position zero "0" (if the sunroof moves, recommence the re-initialisation procedure)Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (the movement takes place after 1 second)Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 secondsRelease the rotary button5. citrophile Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 Thanks Paul, I will give this a try and let you know what happens. I can see why Haynes says go to the dealer....!!!! Rob Quote
citrophile Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Finally got round to this and re-initialised the motor and it does now work as it should except that the runners are quite stiff on the last two settings. If i help it along with a bit of gentle pressure then it works fine so i think it just needs a bit of lubrication. However, I can't see from either the car itself or from the diagrams on the citroen service site, how I get access to the runners in order to grease them. Any clues anyone? I don't want to start pulling trims and gaskets off in case I dmage them and then the roof leaks!! Also, what sort of lubricant do i need, i'm thinking some sort of grease? Thanks Rob Quote
