fonzie Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 1) The car, a 2006 plate has covered 127,000 miles, appears to have been serviced well, though not by a main dealer, should I replace the timing belt ? 2) There's a lot of "clutch shudder", the car was advertised as clutch squealing, I suspect it will be the dual mass flywheel, any tests I can carry out to confirm this ? 3) Aircon doesn't blow cold, a re-gas I suspect, but are there any known common problems with this model ? The annoying bits :- 4) The drivers window doesn't go up correctly, it sticks, then might go back down, it takes four or five presses to complete closing the window. 5) Passenger side window will go down with the drivers window control, but not back up, you have to use the passenger control to do this. The really annoying bit (to me) 6) The dash display shows MPH 0 and MPG 999, the MPG for the current journey does work, this rises and falls as expected, the other two are for overall average speed and consumption I think ? paul.h Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Easy ones first, the others will need thinking about. The mpg display may just need to be reset to zero by holding in the button on the end of the wiper stalk. Once the mileage gets to 10000 km (about 6400 miles) it stops working until reset. Check the total trip mileage by pushing the stalk button to get to the relevant screen to confirm this before doing a reset. The driver's window may be covered in the pinned C5 Common problems post. The window switch problem may be a dirty switch internal contact needing a clean or a replacement but also check the wiring where it goes through the door and pillar nicase it is damaged. Air con may be a regass, our Citroen dealer charges £49.99 for this and I needed it on both our C5s when about 7 years old. Have a look in the maintenance/warranty book for the timing belt interval since it should probably have been done by now. Quote
fonzie Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Thank you for your reply. I tried resetting the mpg, that didn't work. I did the BSI re-set, hoping to clear window problems (it didn't), but the mpg and distance displays are now working correctly. It feels like the switch to me, I'm going to try changing it, but will try wd40 first. Aircon is booked in for tomorrow morning. Cam belt :- going to look into this further, 150,000 is the recommended interval, but if it hasn't been done already (there's around 30 receipts for work carried out over it's lifetime), I'll have it done next week. paul.h Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 This is the bit on the driver's window that may help, as well as trying to clean the window lower seal and and the seal around the side/top of the door. 18. Front window anti pinch stops it closing (comes back down a few inches).Check the bottom rubber seal on the window as these start to corrode and apply pressure on to the runner. However, thanks go to Bobster for the following fix on a passenger window 2003 2.2 hdi sx hatchback.Window fault is cured.A general search on the internet found Vauxhall and Saab owners had the same fault. The cure was to put the key in the ignition, remove the fuse to the passenger door then the fuse to the driver's door console, then replace both fuses and the problem was cured. So, I put the ignition key in and turned it to accessories, then I removed fuse 4 from the passenger glove compartment and checked the passenger window switch which was dead, removed fuse 9 and checked the driver's door switches which were also dead. I then replaced both fuses, pressed the passenger window button to 'raise' and the window moved to the top and stayed there! I tried lowering and raising the passenger window using both passenger and door switches and all worked perfectly, job done! Quote
