My Car is 2008 - (new shape) C5 Exclusive.

The LHS mirror folds when the engine is turned off – BUT – it over-rotates past the 90 degrees and clunks into the door.

It’s a fairly “glancing blow†so sometimes the mirror’s rotation is halted  but sometimes it carries on a way.

Then – when the engine is restarted, the mirror folds out successfully to the correct position, unless it is caught on the door sufficiently that the power of the motor can’t overcome it.

So – whatever senses that the mirror has rotated enough when the engine is turned off clearly is not working – but opening is fine.

No joy from various Citroen dealers,  â€œyou’ll need a new unit at £300†was their reply. Nor so far from Citroen UK

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Had this for a short while on our C4 after it had been for an MOT. I suspect the mirror had been knocked and moved out of position and there was some coloured paint on it which wiped off. All I did was manually move it back and forwards, checked the mirror and pivot area was clean and then used the door mirror switch to fold and open the mirror, it made a grinding noise but then it was ok.

Many thanks for the speedy response.

I find I have to manually twist the mirror into position when it doesn’t unfold if it’s caught on the door.

It just happily snaps into position … but still over rotates when folding again.

Just seems that the signal that says “you’ve rotated enough – STOP†is not being passed to the motor.

If I DO have to get another unit, I have two questions:-

-          Is it necessary to get one of the same paint colour – is the coloured bit part of the replacement item or not?

-          Will a new unit need any coding or will it just be plug & play?

Thanks again

The usual Citroen door mirror switch used to select a mirror for adjustment just needs the sliding selector switch pulling back and then the mirrors will fold if the ignition is on or for a while after removing the ignition key. Pull the switch back again for the mirrors to open once the ignition is on again. On some cars with factory fit reverse sensors, the kerbside mirror will auto adjust to see the kerb if the sliding switch is left in the kerb mirror position and reverse gear is selected.

If a replacement used mirror in the right colour can not be obtained and you do not want to paint it, then you can remove the exterior plastic covers from your existing mirror and fit them to the new mirror.

There are several different mirror part nos. depending on the car RPO, whether it has electric memory mirrors and whether the glass is clear or tinted.
