moon_monkie Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Our Hdi seems to wear it's front tyres out on the outsides pretty quickly. The current set of Continentals were fitted about 11-12,000 miles ago and while most of the tyre is fine on each side the front tyres are already looking pretty low on the outsides. Either it's me taking corners and roundabouts a bit quick or the Berlingo has a tendancy to wear them out around the outsides? Has anyone else experienced this? Ta Quote
kfk Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Whilst tyres are black round and come at various prices they will differ in there wear characteristics. More than likely its a combination of tyre type and driving style. However, to confirm that i would advise the wheel alignment is checked to confirm it doesnt have too much toe in or wear in the suspension/steering components. What tyres did you have on the vehicle previously and how long did they last? Quote
Terry1100 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I'd agree that our wear the outside slightly more. Although I don't disagree with kfk, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the geometry is the same on a Multispace as it is on the van - perhaps more suited to being more heavily laden. Johndouglas Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 The front tyres on my new C5 started wearing at an alarming rate. I took it to Just Tyres to get the alignment checked and it was a mile out. Now I've got two new Michelins on after only 13000 miles. My Xantia did 36K before needing new fronts. Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 3'rd set on the front here, after only 56,000 miles! Quote
Terry1100 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 When we had the crash repair done there were difficulties in getting the tracking sorted. According to the guy at the bodyshop, any vehicle which drives in an area where there are "piilow" type speed bumps (everywhere !) will have trashed tracking. It's because we all try to "straddle" the pillows rather than letting one wheel go right over the middle keeping the other one on the flat. This has the effect of trying to push the wheels outwards every time you go over one - over a period of time the tracking gets worse and worse. Quote
moon_monkie Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 have just had the tracking done and as suspected it was out at the front so will have to keep an eye on it from now on. (interesting about the pillow type speed humps that seem to be everywhere now though). Quote
Terry1100 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Although the pillow thing does make sense to me, I'm not offering it as "fact". The guy could have been bulls****ing me about the time it took them to repair the car. Quote
