Cormorin Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi, I have had my C4 since Aug 05 and has 20k on the clock, its comfortable for long journey's I often travel to Wales which is a 3-5hr trip and I am fresh when I get there.... However I have had to back to the dealers 7 times in a year with the following issues: 1. Wiper Blades smearing window - required two trips for the dealer to decide to change the wiper arms. 2. Air conditioning soaked the foot wells this summer as the drain hole was not big enough! Took it in to be fixed but still soaks the foot wells if I use the A/C more than 2hrs on LOW. 3. Front headlamp washer broke and needed a new unit. 4. Brakes squeek in forward and reverse, needed to change calibers I think, but still squeek. 5. CD changer jumps had to get a new top unit to the middle arm rest. 6. Both driver doors rattle, still even asking for a fix 7. In cold weather and when you open and close the windows there is a loud whislting noise. 8. Seat belt housings rattle. 9. Front screen demister button does not turn on max fan only a low fan. 10. Loose steering wheel column, this should have already been fixed but is lose again! 11. Door handles stick, I have to spray them with WD40. 12. Boot does not always open sticks and you need to push down before you open it. 13. Brakes failed !!!! I had to get it towed to the dealer and there was a air bubble in the tank???? 14. Cruise control failed on motorway, fortunately it just turned off not stayed on! I'm think of moving into the dealership as I am sure 10k of my mileage is going to/from them! A few questions through, 1. What is the three copper strips which run through the rear driver side window, are they heat strips ?? or FM ariel as I have been told by the dealer ? as they do nothing. 2. Where can i get a cover for headlamp washers as someone hit the front of my car and broke it off....teh dealership want £30 for part and £75 to fix it !!!! Only buy this car if you live next door to the dealership!!!!!! <_< Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Only buy this car if you live next door to the dealership!!!!!! <_< Or if you want a beautiful, powerful (ish) and original car, amongst other GREAT things!!! Most of those "problems" are nothing to write home about to be honest! The brake fail is bad, but you are the only one, that i am aware of, that has had that problem. The rest are just small niggles!!Windscreen wipers smearing! - come on, i get that, but it does not bother me to the extent that i will waste a jouney to the dealership to get it fixed!!Brake squeel, most people have had, or have that problem, but again, it is not the be all and end all!Criuse Control, EASY software patch!!!!! The rest are to petite to write about at this time! Really not gonna stop some1 buying a C4 (especially a VTS!)!Any other peoples thoughts!?! maybe i am being silly, i am really tired! Quote
wozza Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Sounds like you had a lot of problems but a lot of them if you look around on here have known fixes for the dealership should have sored all those issues out. Have you asked to take another similar mileage VTS out? We have a few owners on here with them most of them have had pretty much trouble free cars. I mean yours is only a month newer than mine and i have had a lot of those issues and now mines pretty much perfect i have 1 squeek to get rid of which dissapears when the car is heated up so not sure what that is. Z3M Roadster Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 The problem I find is the annoyance factor, especially as mine has had most of those problems and more. The main problem is that you have to make at least 2 trips to the dealer to get anything sorted. Mine is due for its 17th trip to the dealer next week. Quote
Welshguy Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 If you dont want your VTS I will gladly offer you £100 to take it off you <_< Quote
trypodz Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Sorry to hear you have had so many problems.............Had mine a couple of months now and all of the initial problems have been sorted out with a couple of trips to the dealer.......... Have developed an annoying rumble from the rear recently (no jokes please) and think I have traced it to a loose interior panel which I should imagine will only take 10 mins when I get round to it.. I love everything about this car...... design certainly gets people looking and what a great sound when you floor it. The spec is fantastic, plenty of room inside and with leather/cloth seats its really comfortable.............great driving position unlike the last car I had.......... 206 GTi awful driving position and was still not used to it after 3 years. Johndouglas Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 2. Where can i get a cover for headlamp washers as someone hit the front of my car and broke it off....teh dealership want £30 for part and £75 to fix it !!!! £30 + £75. I think you are about to be ripped-off. If your headlamp washer covers are like mine on the C5, I've lost both of mine at different times. I got replacements which are in base plastic, and the spray paint and gloss spray all for £15. After you refix them, use a small plastic zip tie to stop them falling off again. Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I have had similar problems with my car, the build quality is abysmal for an 05 car with 27k on the clock its a disgrace. Ive been to the dealers every week since ive owned it. Ive owned 8 cars in 8 years and this is the worse car ive had by a long way, I also had an mg zr which I thought at the time had awful build quality but this citroen is on another level. I had an Alfa 156 that had done 87k and not one rattle solid as they come and they get slated in the press. I think Citroen didnt do any quality testing and thought they would use the customer to do it for free! Oh and before the lucky ones with no problems go well there are niggles with all cars, id say 90% of the peeps on here and other websites have had problems. Anyone want to make me an offer? Quote
C4VTS Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 The aerial strips on the window are for a dual tuner radio, but i don't think it's used in the UK ? I have a rattle coming from n/s front but that's about it, and am going to get it checked at the dealer on saturday to see where it's coming from. The rest of things mentioned by the OP are just minor niggles, and should have been fixed at first visit to the dealer. Quote

Oh and before the lucky ones with no problems go well there are niggles with all cars, id say 90% of the peeps on here and other websites have had problems. Anyone want to make me an offer? You seem to have a lot of issues with yours. But i can say i have had very few bad issues. And talking about build quality i know 3 people with brand new golfs all of which have had problems. My mates new 3 series has had a couple issues. The 1 series recently had a recall as well. The merc A class had loads of issues. Build quality in my C4 is leagues ahead of my mates ZR. But then again you should not compare it to a car thats basically 10 years old. Buy any new car thats been out less than a year and it will have problems. I guarantee it. You have an early C4 it is going to have teething issues which the newer cars wont have. When will people learn new models are not something to buy unless your willing to put up with teething problems! Again in referance to my mates golf. One of the rear light clusters fell off and so did the rear spoiler. This is on a £20k+ GTI. Way i see it thought theres quite a lot of us that are C4 owners on here now and only a couple of you have had problems. Does that not say something? My family has only bought new cars in the last 10+ years we have had 5 brand new cars. we have had fiats, nissans, chevy's etc. All of them had teething issues. Quote
Mat Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 1. What is the three copper strips which run through the rear driver side window, are they heat strips ?? or FM ariel as I have been told by the dealer ? as they do nothing. I seem to remember this one quite a while ago. It is a 2nd radio antenna, i think for use with the JBL unit. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I totally agree with Wozza! The "problems" i have had cannot be classed as problems, and that is what most people on here have experienced! There is a tiny percentage here that have had any serious problems! Quote
Stuey Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 mine is a very late '05 2 days before '55 and was a fresh build and I have had a few rattles all of which have been dealt with promptly by the dealership. Admitadly when the car is cold first thing in the morning it rattles and bangs quite a bit but as soon as its warmed up its fine. People may take the piss out of the car because it has been back to Citroen a few times for recalls but as Wozza said it is nothing out of the ordinary and as it was brand new it has 3 years warranty so bills are not an issue. It can be a ball ache to keep taking them back but it most cases the fix's are done in under an hour so can be done in a lunchtime. I am not shaken in any way over the recalls. To be perfectly honest I was half expecting them and I am considering having another C4 after this one. It still looks fresh unlike the Focus and Golf that are only a little older (and are not aswell built) are looking dated. If I see a yellow VTS in about a years time I am pretty sure I will have it. Wink wink Dave&Trace  Quote
powza Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I'm feeling a bit left out here. I've had my 1.6 VTR+ HDI since the end of July and have not had a single problem with it so far. Everything works fine (although the gear change from 1 to 2 is a bit hit and miss on occasions when I am not concentrating properly) with no squeaks, bangs or rumbles. Nothing has fallen off and there are no worrying signs that they are about to. Have I just been lucky so far? Am I about to wake up one morning to find all these catalogue of faults hitting me at once? I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Quote
Stuey Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 if they havent happened yet they probably arny going mate to be honest!! Quote

kfk Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Part number for the covers is: 6438P2 - RIGHT6438P3 - LEFT Price £34.87 inc vat each Quote
wozza Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 I suggest Ebay. Also is there no peugeot part that will fit as sometimes they can be cheaper for parts and there the same thing. Quote
