WolverineX Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi all, I have recently bought a 54 plate 1.9 Dispatch, variant BZWJYB, engine DXFP. the rocker cover gasket (I'm guessing the 'lower') was reported as being done in December 2012 however there was a bad oil leak coming from the 'upper' gasket. I ordered both gaskets from eurocarparts, the upper gasket was correct and fits fine but the lower gasket although it is the right size, doesn't fit as there is no groove in the alloy rocker cover for the gasket to fit into! When I removed the cover there was just a bead of silicone sealant! Is it the wrong gasket? Should there be a gasket or is silicone instant gasket enough? Quote
WolverineX Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 This image I found from a Peugeot 206 forum is useful...I have the correct gasket that fits between 4 and 5, its the one that goes between 5 and the cylinder head I'm pretty sure is incorrect. In fact on that same forum I found a picture of a 1.9D engine which also had just silicone as a gasket! http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/repair-206/206/images/b/b1dp14pd.gif Quote
paul.h Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 You are best to check in the Citroen parts diagrams for the bits for your van against its VIN (VIS). I had a quick look and the lower gasket is only listed up to RPO 08394. Also I could not find any mention of using a gasket or sealant in the Citroen procedures. You can see the parts diagrams as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres Quote
WolverineX Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 Thanks for the information paul.h. That Citroen Service page is excellent! What do you mean "the lower gasket is only listed up to RPO 08394."? It is interesting that only the upper gasket #024495 is shown in the exploded diagram of the engine, the other gasket I have is not shown, but appears to be present in the Engine Gasket Kit #0197X6.I am confused, but instant gasket looks favourite now! What are your thoughts? I need the vehicle running in the next couple of days. Quote
paul.h Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 If you look at the parts diagrams without the filter (click on it in the left column or when selecting the vehicle do not use the VIN and do not choose an engine) so it shows all engines, then the lower gasket is shown under the Cylinder head cover / DW8 and EEC 95 depoll engine - as part 17 (024997) up to vehicle RPO number 08394. I've looked in a Haynes manual for the Xsara Picasso and that similarly does not use a gasket in the same place on the 2.0 hdi DW10 engine. According to Haynes it uses a RTV sealant. All the old sealant needs removing and any oil cleaning off the contact surfaces to give clean bare metal before sparingly applying a new bead of sealant. So I would use an instant gasket type of sealant suitable for oil/high temperatures. Do not use too much since bits could end up in the engine and also let it set before running the engine. Citroen's procedures for this engine give - Deposit a line of sealing compound (E10) at "c" around the edge of the mating surfaces. The RPO number is another identification for each individual vehicle that Citroen use and it is on the door pillar sticker with the tyre pressures and paint code. It is also listed under the parts diagrams under Characteristics from the left column. Quote
WolverineX Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 I scraped all the old silicone off the head, rubbed it down with emery cloth and then degreased it and the lower rocker cover before applying a bead of Iinstant gasket to it - up to the lip - and added an extra 'blob' to the corners, before setting it onto the engine block. I torqued everything up and cleaned the EGR valve before replacing everything. I didn't run it till the next day just to be sure! Three days later, all seems fine! I am a happy chappy! Thanks for your help Paul.Off topic now. I see you are in Warrington. I was born and raised in Orford until I moved to Wales in 1988. It's changed a lot now! Quote
paul.h Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Thankyou for getting back to us and I am pleased it has worked. Quote
