Hello good Citroen people,

I have just got my first Citroen having been a Pug person for many years,

it's an 04 plate C5 automatic deisel estate,

now the problem is the rear wiper starts wiping when I unlock the central locking

also when  put the car into reverse, off it goes left, right, left, right, then stops

anywhere it chooses, usually upright in the middle of the screen,

does anyone have any idea at all where I can start with this most bizarre problem please ??

my hand is outstretched and ready to be guided.

Thanking you.

Welcome to the forum.

The car can be set for the rear wiper to run when the front wipers are on whilst reverse is selected and is usually done through the menu button on the radio. However, your problem is similar to one on a C3 we had which was cured when the rear wiper motor was replaced as part of replacing the hatch door with a used one. First I would check if the wiring between the rear door and the roof is not damaged within the rubber sleeve but if this is ok then you may need to replace the wiper motor with a new or used one.

Haynes do a workshop manual for the C5 which is worthwhile getting, even if your engine is not covered (I think you may have a 2.2 hdi 136 bhp) since everything else will apply.

Thank you for the reply,

I will be on the case over the weekend,

every day so far something new is becoming faulty

so I feel I may be a regular on this forum....sigh

I've had similar problem, the wiring "fray" at the tailgate, top left if standing at rear of car, remove screws and plastic trim, you should easily spot the "chewed wiring".

If this is the case, use new long lengths of wire into the boot wall area, do not just try to repair/solder/tape the damaged areas, it will fail after a couple of weeks.

Thank you all very much for your assistance,

found two damaged wires and now the wiper is behaving properly,

which is a bonus as today is a very rainy day,

right then lets get this stereo sorted out.........
