MorphMann Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Brought this motor cheap yesterday and have a few issues that I am hopeing are fuse related. Only prob is there is no manual or anything on the fuse box to let me know which fuse is for what.Issues are, 1. Interior lights do not work 2. Central locking does not work Any help would be greatfully recieved Quote
paul.h Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 It would pay you to get a copy of the Haynes manual for your car. In one for the Xsara Picasso which if it is similar, it shows the interior lights have a fuse in the interior fuse box, fuse 8, 10 amp. I would also check the bulbs are in good condition - it shows a screwdriver being used to lever off the light lens. This fuse box is shown located at the right end of the dash below a couple of switches and the cover needs to be pulled off - if it is not here it will likely be in the glove box behind a panel. It does not show a fuse for the central locking but you could look in the fuse box for any blown fuses. Is the central locking not working when just using the remote key buttons and still working if you use a key in the door lock or if the switch on the dash is used (if there is one) ? Quote
MorphMann Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Cheers for replying PaulI spent a couple of hours googleing fuse positions and all I got was either the later 2001- model or the picasso ones. Both of which have a different fuse box. Key I have does not have the remote part so must be a replacement, but opens all the doors except the boot which opens with a different key. Fuse box is there but with no manual and no printed map on the cover, I'm at a loss to find out which fuse does what.I agree on getting a Haynes manual but obviously would rather get the help on here if anybody has the details. Thank you though bud Quote
MorphMann Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Now got a Haynes manual and..................... Even though it mentions the fuses and what does what, none of them are for interior lights or central locking.Don't get me wrong, with a 15yr old motor I will need the manual at some point I have no doubt. lol Now wondering if it could be wires in either of the front doors leading from the locks instead after a lot more googling with ref to the central locking....Doubt that will affect the interior lights though unless there wires have earthed as well against the scraped cables for central locking.BTW the int lights neither work with door/s open or by turning on at switch. paul.h Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Did you check the interior light bulbs ? If you have a meter you can check for a 12 volt supply to one side of the bulb and for an earth at the other side of the bulb in each light. Quote
MorphMann Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Not got a meter bud, but after last nights shift I came across a new symptom of this problem. After scraping the ice off the windscreen I started the engine and drove home via a local shop. As I pulled up I put on my hazards and the interior lights started flashing. Then I got out and locked the door with the drivers key and the central locking sprang to life for the first time. The half a second later it unlocked all the doors again..........I'm definitely thinking it must be earthing error and or knacked wires (hopefully) in the door now.Unless any of you have any other ideas Quote
paul.h Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 You may find some earth points at the bottom of the pillars in the front footwells - Haynes may say where they are. You can get a meter for around £6 that is good enough for checking voltage and resistance (for continuity checks) such as this from Toolstation http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/d190/Electrical+Test+Equipment/sd3348/Digital+Multi+Meter/p11867 Quote
MorphMann Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Cheers again bud, I will be looking into this on Saturday and will get back to you.Think it must be wires in door after reading this as wellhttp://www.2carpros.com/questions/all-other-cars-all-other-cars-car-door-central-locking But must admit I do secretly love little faults like this as it gains me more knowledge of civvy motors Quote
MorphMann Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Had stuff I couldn't shake off at weekend but hoping for this weekend now Quote
