chunkymunky1988 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Hi all, got in my car this morning and there is a noise which sounds as if.it's coming from under the top of the silver engine cover which sounds like air leaking very loudly and when I press the throttle the air leak speeds up and goes with the engine speed. It's a 2001 2.2hdi estate. No loss of power or warning lights and no chance to look at it till I finish work this evening. Any ideas what pipes are under there that I should look for? Cheers Quote
paul.h Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 There is the turbo and all its piping at the back of the engine and I think the egr valve is also there. Quote
chunkymunky1988 Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 Just took the silver cover off and underneath is 4 plug looking things which on a petrol I could describe as coils. That's where the blowing is coming from very loudly, what are they exactly? They have 4 electrical connectors connected.to them and metal tubes going into them? Quote
chunkymunky1988 Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 Just seen a video on YouTube of the same problem and it looks as if it is injector seal. Is that easy to change? Quote
YOG Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Seals are easy to change, if the injector comes out easily. Quote
chunkymunky1988 Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 What would the process be for replacing the seals? Quote
Parkesie Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Remove injector clean the seat fish out the old seal pop new one in with injector tighten it all up plug it in and start it up. Quote
chunkymunky1988 Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Okay I took off the two retaining.nuts.and disconnected all pipe work and plugs, undone the studs until they just kept spinning which helped to lift up the injector about an inch so the top of the plastic seat around the base of the injector could be seen but even using leverage under the injector I could not lift it any further so I decided to put it all back and going to call a garage to do it. In the process of putting it back the top of one of the studs broke a little but still managed to get it tightened back down Quote
LollysC5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 A slide hammer normally helps, not in my case it took two days for the injector to be removed from the head! lol the head had cracked and warped. After inspecting the injectors they were silted up with a silver sludge. Injector pump was failing.......... lots of black smoke........ previous owner sold the car with the thermostat middle removed....... I later discovered to my horror......... clutch release bearing started squeaking when pulling away........... car was scrapped to many problems to warrant repair. Surprisingly it was a volvo s40 1.9D renault engine........ the car had covered 167000 miles......... I've replaced it with C5 HDI SX with 170000 miles on.......... runs so much better :) Quote
