2007 C5 2.0HDi 136 Exclusive

Last week the service light came on. It stayed on for a day and a half then went out and hasn't reappeared.

Is this simply a pre-warning that a service will shortly be due or is it something else?

Thanks

Chris

it means something is wrong . you can check warning status in the computer menu . Should have been accompanied by a warning light

Service due is indicated by a spanner in the odometer

Hi seefive

There is a spanner appearing in the odometer. The service light I refer to is the word 'service' which lit up but it is gone now. I did check the warning status on the menu but it says there are no faults.

The Service light can be all sorts of things such as the key fob battery needing replacement, the car battery voltage low, the front brake pads worn, wrong engine oil level, low washer fluid level, etc but would usually have another message saying what is wrong.

Hi Paul

No other messages. I checked the warning log. The light was only on for a day or two then went off and hasn't reappeared.

Another point...I'm getting the car serviced by an independent mechanic. It was meant to be last Saturday but it didn't happen. He's doing it this Saturday. Is there a way he can reset the service indicator for me or does he need specialist Citroen equipment to do it? I don't know what electronic stuff he has, I'm assuming he has the normal run of the mill stuff you'd find in any independent's garage.

Resetting the service indicator is easy and is covered in the handbook so you can do it yourself. The button on the speedo is held in and then the key in the ignition is turned so the dash lights up. The numbers will then count down to =0 and then you let go of the button.

Make sure your garage uses the correct oil, your maintenance handbook will give the correct one but is likely to be Total Ineo ECS 5w/30 due to the dpf needing a low ash oil. Citroen dealers sell it for around £35 for 5 litres. There are pinned notes on the Problems and Fixes section on replacing the front brake pads and removing the rear brake calipers if you are having the brakes cleaned.

Thank you Paul.

Yourself and seefive are great for accurate information.

Speaking of brakes...my brakes sometimes squeal (and it can be quite loud!) when coming to a stop. No noise at all when braking during normal driving, no brake judder or grinding etc.

Any ideas?

Greatly appreciated

Chris

Rear brake squeal is usually a result of corrosion between the brake caliper and the suspension arm, hence the topic on removing the rear brake calipers so it can be cleaned off. When it gets really bad the caliper has been pushed out so that it can catch the wheels.
