Hi all, I purchased a C5 2.0 HDI 52 reg. Its been running fine, but since ownership I've noticed a chirping noise from around the crank pulley, alternator etc area. Its not become any worse. I've listed to the noise of crank pulley that has gone wrong from youtube it makes a clattery noise. My noise is a chirp so a little confused. On idle all is quiet and pull away incomes the chirp each time the engine is revved to pull away, I've only heard this noise in the lower gears, as for 4th or 5th I close the windows. Its only audible with the windows down. Another C5 did pass me the other day with the exact same chirp and it was only when he was pulling away.

Has anyone had this problem before or is it common? ...... I've not owned a HDI engine before

Many Thanks Inadvance  :)

it will be a lightly warn aux belt thay are about £12 and you a long 15mm spanner for the the tensioner and an 8mm hex key and a 1/4" drive may be needed for the maual tensioner depending on belt tension

its the ac compreser clutch or the power stering pump

the ac compressor clutch you can spray a bit or wd40 or sume such on it but not where the belt runs get as much as you can in the clutch see if it stops it

Welcome to the forum.

Can you hear the noise with the car parked and the bonnet up whilst somebody revs the engine ? If you use the air con does the noise change as the compressor clutch pulls in/out ? Does the noise change if you turn the steering wheel ? Somebody recently described a  noise as a chirp which was a leaking injector to cylinder head seal so you could remove the engine cover and have a look/listen at the injectors.

Hi, thank you or the replies, I've tried WD40 in all the places ie aircon clutch etc and still the noise prevails. I had a helper with me this time and it transpires its the alternator belt tensioner...... I'll change it for another one........ and will see
