chunkymunky1988 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Hi all, had a brand new caliper fitted to my os front wheel last week and since then my pedal sinks slowly and is really spongy. I noticed my brake fluid had dropped drastically and took it back to garage today and he had a look and couldn't see no problems so topped fluid back up and told me to keep an eye on it. When I took wheel off and had a look, the brake hose where it screws into caliper still has thread showing but doesn't seem to tighten up no more, is this meant to screw right in if so why would it not be going in fully? paul.h Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 The brake hose may seal at the bottom of the hole in the caliper (like a bleed screw) - check it against the other side. If it sealed against the caliper at the top it would need a copper washer/gasket. When replacing the front calipers special procedures are needed to prevent it being ruined, coastline taxis has posted on this. From memory, the caliper handbrake lever must not be touched until the piston has been pushed out to touch the pads using the pedal and then the handbrake cable can be attached. If it is done the other way round the self adjustment is damaged. Also to bleed the system fully if air has got in to the abs system requires a Lexia. Quote
madmadmax Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) the brake pipes don't all ways scrue right in on most of the cars i have worked on its sound like he has not bled the brake fulley you can do it at home takes about 20mins its well documented on youtube. i did it the wrong way round just like most mecanics will and my brakes are fine so don't worrey about that or the abs, as the abs will blead throught as you bled the brakes. chunkymunky1988 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 If it has air in the system would that cause brake fluid loss or does that sound more like it's leaking somewhere? Quote
paul.h Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 This is the topic about replacing a front brake caliper and bleeding the brakes http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6901-c5-bleeding-brakes/?hl=%2Bbleeding+%2Bbrakes I have now pinned this topic and changed its title slightly so it can be easily found.
