Martin roberts Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 hi, first post n all that. i need to service my partners 1.6 8v petrol. a few questions to this very very quiet forum (is there a better one that is busier and more popular???) how is best to determine which oil filter element i need? there are at least 2 listed ! and where is the fuel filter and whats the best method to remove it ? What are peoples recommended oils? im used to modern high perfomance diesels as i have an octavia 2.0 140bhp tdi which absolutely must have the dogs dangly bits of oils. but the xara is petrol and not even 16v so thinking i can get away with either halfords own brand or 10/40 magnatec?? or should i go the whole hog and go for the 0/30 castrol edge in such an old motor? opinions please are greatfully appreciated. paul.h Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Welcome to the forum. I usually get parts from our local Citroen dealer using the car VIN, then I know they will be correct and fit, plus they are often not much different in price to elsewhere. The car handbook/maintenance and warranty guide lists the correct oil and will give the oil spec/viscosity and usually the Total brand. The oil is also available at a dealer but may be cheaper over the internet. Have a look on the eurocaparts website using the car reg to see if it has a fuel filter, chances are it will not. There is also a Picasso forum with a link to it on the home page. Once you have carried out the service perhaps you will come back with a few details. Quote
paul.h Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Looking in a 2006 and a 2011 Citroen maintenance/warranty handbook it gives the service interval as 20k miles or 2 years if sooner. The options it gives for the engine oil are- semi synthetic 10w-40 to PSA spec B71 2300 A3/B3 SL/CF. Total quartz 7000- or synthetic 5w-40 to B71 2296 A3/B4 SL/CF. Total quartz 9000- or synthetic 0w-30 to B71 2296 A3/B4 SL/CF. Total quartz energy 9000- or synthetic anti pollution 5w-30 to B71 2290 C2. Total quartz INEO ECS. On our previous 2003 1.4 petrol C3 I used Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1 full synthetic oil (this spec would have been in its handbook) and is available from such as Asda and Halfords for around £25 for 4 litres.
