hello everyone,  im new here so not entirely sure how this works..  I hope someone can help as local citroen dealers havnt..

im having problems with my C5 locking itself.  normally I unlock the door with the keyfob, the mirrors fold out, the doors unlock and the dash board illuminates ready to start..  now when I unlock, the mirrors fold out the doors open but no dash board start up,  when I get in the car and close the door everything locks itself back up and the mirrors fold in,  the engine starts and runs normally but I have to manually unlock the doors again when wanting to get out...  This is a problem because if I ever leave the car and shut the door without taking the keys with me im instantly locked out. ive tried all kinds of combinations of door locking sequences and also used the spare fob but with no success.. please can someone shed some light on the issue. thanks ,,..

first thing to try is a bsi reset, if that dose not work then we need to start looking at other things.

CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.
Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.
Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.
Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).
Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
Start the engine and complete the system's check.

Reset the clock and date.
Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

Welcome to the forum.

Is your car the 2004 to 2008 or 2008 on model, which engine is it and what precise model - eg LX, VTR, exclusive ?

How much of the dash board would light up - on our cars only the mileage would show until the key was put in the ignition ?

In Citroens, if the doors are unlocked but not opened, then they auto lock after 30 seconds - it sounds as if this is happening and if so opening the driver's door is not being recognised by the car. Try opening another door after using the key remote and see if it does not auto relock - this will help decide if it is a problem with the driver's door lock (or its wiring) or the central locking system. Also see if the dash display shows when the driver's door is open. Try these before doing the bsi reset just in case that causes other problems.

The cars also have auto locking when above about 6mph and this is activated by holding down the dash lock button (possibly needing the engine running). The doors then unlock when opening them from inside.

hello, thanks for a quick reply..  my car is the C5 exclusive 2008 2.0 hdi..  yes the doors do autolock after 20 seconds as usual, but before the problem I would unlock the car, get in and drive off and the doors would never lock unless I did it manually.. now when I get in the doors lock as soon as I close the door..  BUT !!  if I get in, start the engine before closing the door they will remain unlocked as normal.  but if I stop the engine,  get out and close the door all the central locking activates and locks,  basically any time I open and shut the door without the engine running the doors lock. locking myself out of my car is a real possibility and concern..

as regards to the dash board,  before the issue...  when I ulock the car using the fob as normal the entire console would illuminate as it does when the engine is running, now when I unlock the car the dashboard is dead until I turn on the ignition,

Is your car the 2008 to now model or the 2004 to 2008 one ?

The complete lighting up of the dash previously does not seem right, our Citroens are/have been a 2003 and 2010 C3, 2008 and 2011 C4, 2004 and 2007 C5 and on these when the doors have been unlocked only the mileage would display for a short while.

Did you have a diagnostic check at the Citroen dealers on the locking system ?

Have you tried opening another door and also seeing if the dash shows when the driver's door is open ? You can also check if the wiring between the driver's door and pillar is broken. I would also try the key blade in the door locks, locking/unlocking a few times in case one is stuck in the lock position.

Try the bsi reset mentioned above. There is also a comms 2000 reset procedure used on a C3 to consider since the lighting and possibly remote receiver may be in this unit http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22284-wipers-washers-stopped-working/
