Larkspeed Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I need to change the front pads on my 98 Xantia 1.8 8v According to the manual I just pull the split pin out of the lower retaining pin, extract the pin and then rotate the caliper about it's top mounting bolt. My problem is even after the split pins are removed I cannot get either retaining pin to budge, they are seized solid. Does anyone have any idea how I can get these out? I have already tried soaking them with WD40 and that did not do the trick. I don't care about destroying the pins because I have a new mounting set so new pins to go in their place. Quote
paul.h Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 You could try knocking them out with a hammer or using a puller to push them out but there may be a risk of damage to the caliper support bracket. You could also try applying heat. Cutting them off and then drilling out the bits may not be easy since the pins are likely to be hardened. When you come to fit the new ones a bit of copper grease in the holes and on the pins should help to stop them rusting in again. Quote
Landmark Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) As Paul says, give them a good soaking in propper release oil first. Are you able to get at the back of the pin? If so try using a drift to hammer it out. A sawn off nail of a slightly small diameter may do the job. And anice big hammer :DGriff Edited March 4, 2015 by Landmark Quote
