Old Mosher Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Hi all.Had my 01 2.2HDi exclusive had its DPF removed years ago but just lately I've had the odd anti pollution warning pop up. The only thing I can't clear is the Eolys level low signal. Is there a work around for this i.e. fill it with Diesel, Cataclean, Redex, Beer or just frig the signal with a resister, if so how? I've already reset the counter last week (interesting as the local dealer said "the counter on your model can't be reset so we will have to charge £££ for a new one" which is why I went with the deFAP in the first place) and haven't heard a peep out of it since, but I would like to kill the low signal. Other than that she's a joy to drive. Thanks Coastline ;) Quote
paul.h Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 As far as I have learnt from this forum, you can not kid the low level warning, even by putting in a liquid in the eolys tank since the level is not measured, only calculated by fuel fill ups/mileage, hence the reason for the counter. If resetting the counter has not worked then I think on early models the controller/ecu had to be replaced to stop it - so I suspect you will need to live with the message. Eolys would still be added though if there is any in its tank unless you had the software changed. I am sure you know by now that removal of the dpf is not legal and the car would fail the MOT if the tester thinks it has been removed. A quick check on this is if the exhaust tail pipe is sooty internally - on all our cars that have had a dpf it has been clean metal so regular cleaning of this may be useful if it is now covered in soot. It may also affect your insurance since your car is not to MOT standards and has also been modified which should have been mentioned to the insurance company. Quote

paul.h Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The ads that crop up when using the internet are generated by google monitoring your pc and seeing what you are looking at, so we will all be seeing different ads. I have noticed before that a member commented on ads appearing and the ones mentioned have not appeared on my pc. I do not know how to stop these - if you click on the Adchoice icon on the ads it brings up a google application but I have not gone further than this. As for dpf removal companies, there will likely be small print that says it can be done for cars used off road which they will see as a way of getting round the legislation to keep their company going. aspire_helen Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 HiI am the one whose C5 2.2HDi has not used any DPX42 for 10,000s miles and has no warnings and runs fine (at 152,000 miles). As it is now apparent that the "car" is not adding the DPX42 to the fuel automatically, I now keep small bottles of pre-measured 37.5ml (approx) doses in the boot and pour one into the tank (60litres) before I fill up - its clean and takes a mere 10 extra seconds at the pumps. Its no more difficult than using any other fuel additive. Ive drained the DPX42 tank and If I could I would remove the DPX42 tank and the associated pump, ECU etc, saving up to 15kg of redundant weight. The automated additive system is an unnecessary complexity which clearly causes so much grief, but is a money spinner for garages.Helen Quote
paul.h Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 If you think the eolys system is bad, its replacement using adblue is possibly worse. This is dosed in to the exhaust and where about 3 litres of eolys lasts about 80k miles, the adblue is approx 17 litres between annual services so about 12k miles giving about 1 litre each tank fill up of diesel, but it can not be added to the diesel tank if the dosing system fails. Also if the adblue level is too low it will prevent the engine running. Quote

Adblue seems to be a universal European system to meet Euro 6. It would be interesting to see whether the Eolys system would meet Euro 6. However, if Boris gets his way, vehicles not meeting Euro 6 won't be allowed to drive in London after 2020!Incidentally, Francois Hollande wanted to ban ALL diesel cars from Paris. This has died down as cars with "odd" and "Even" number plates are only allowed to enter Paris every other day. (This is now being reconsidered as people staying overnight in Paris find they're not allowed to drive out the following day!!) Edited March 30, 2015 by MikeLane Quote
paul.h Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I think the adblue system reduces nitrogen oxides unlike the eolys system. Quote
MikeLane Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 http://www.powermaxed.com/car-additives/diesel-particulate-filter-cleaner This just popped up whilst I was reading this post.Has anyone tried it and, if so, did it work? Quote
