Jackbauer8301 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi,few days after I bought it my c3 cut out in the middle of a motorway. After that it would not start. I got a car checked in a garage only to be told that no fault was found. Now it seems the car starts 1 time out of 10.It's 2008, petrol, 1.4.any ideas where to start looking? Citroen service would charge me silly money just for checking the carthanks for your help Quote
paul.h Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Welcome to the forum. This could possibly be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. These do not give a fault code but first will cut out the engine when hot but allow it to start once cooled down but will eventually prevent the car starting. A new one from a Citroen dealer will only be about £30 so is worth a try and takes a few minutes to change. It is located at the top of the clutch bell housing. Quote
Jackbauer8301 Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Hi Paul, thanks for your reply.Yesterday I couldn't start the car at all, checked few minutes ago and started without any issues from cold. Does this still sound like an issue with CPS? ill try to have it exchanged today but as the issue is intermittent not sure how I can verify if it helped or not Quote
paul.h Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Starting from cold is a classic cps failure but once it warms up it then cuts out. You will know if it has fixed the problem since the car will always start, cold or warm. There is some info here on how to test the sensor http://www.1aauto.com/content/articles/crank-sensor-testing Quote
Jackbauer8301 Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Hi Paul,i got cps and coolant sensor replaced 2 weeks ago. Car's been running fine since then.Hopefully it was a faulty cps and the issue is completely gone now (unfortunately the old one wasnt tested in a garage) Thanks! Quote
paul.h Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Thanks for getting back to us, sometimes possible fixes are suggested but we never hear back if they worked. Quote
