A lot of money!

Do I take there is only one,the spare lost?

Worst case. Lock and unlock with key,as long when the unit is inserted into slot in dash and no problem starting there is nothing to worry about.

After you get price of new unit from Citeron do a search with Google you will find it can be bought from a locksmith or other supplier with quite a decent saving. You would then be in position of holding the worn one as emergency spare. You will need to have the new unit cloned from old,not a cheap job.

If it is just the button on the fob case that has worn then replacement cases can be bought from such as ebay for a few pounds. You then fit the insides and key blade from your existing key. If the key blade is a folding one, these are held by a small roll pin which can be seen and pushed/knocked out with a small screwdriver if the blade is part opened  (pliers work well for sqeezing in the pin on refitting). I have done this on 2 different C3s and the replacement cases seem to be longer lasting than the Citroen ones. Thanks. We bought a cheap one from ebay but it wouldn't work it needed programming it opened the car but wouldn't start the engine. I still have the spare but he isn't having that to stuff in his pockets and wear out again I will just have to lock and unlock the doors for him.

Could you not put the insides of your old key fob into the replacement one so that the imobiliser chip was also transferred ? If you want a complete new key/remote from Citroen they can be around £100, possibly +/- £50.
