Parkesie Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 What kind of oil would help narrow it down. Quote
dev9bov9 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 I will investigate more tomorrow ,like to have some knowledge of what the problem is so I don't get hit with un realistic bill from my mechanic . thank for response ,the car runs fine ,had all the oil and filters changed , ill post some photo asp thanks Quote
dev9bov9 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 seems to be fresh oil dripping off the bottom of the alternator the dip sticks shows slightly over the max mark ,had service recent .oil filters in awkward place could be sloppy work , I will keep an eye on oil level monitor the amount of loss first ., a member posted using a uv dye then a fluorescent light .where can I get the dye ? thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 To inspect the underside of the engine you'll have to remove the undertray - assuming it's still fitted. But first I would check the oil filter. Maybe it hasn't been tightened sufficiently or maybe replaced without fitting a new O-ring. To check the filter remove the top cover. It's tucked away under the front of the engine & over the alternator with a 32mm hex shaped top. Quote
dev9bov9 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 I removed undertray and checked filter is tight, it clean not leaking ,I have wiped the area clean so I can see where its leaking from after work tomorrow, run up the m2 . its only a small leak at the moment .it looks like clean engine oil ,clear in colour thank for response I will check it tomorrow after work , Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 With some luck you may find some was spilt when refilling the sump. Quote
dev9bov9 Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 without any luck ???? I got lucky on the DPF it likes motorways, got the car for a grand £500 under value things are cheap for a reason , any nasty problems I could encounter if luck evades me ? worst case scenarios ? im thinking maybe inter cooler what ever that is , Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 im thinking maybe inter cooler what ever that is , There shouldn't be any oil in the intercooler although some can leak past worn turbo bearings. The intercooler acts like a scoop in front of the radiator. The colder the air, the more the turbo can force into the cylinders. Quote
