richard0212 Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Pipe prices at evans halshaw vat inc. ....high pressure pipe £185.42...low pressure £74.38...cooler pipe £61.69 ...fluid £20.05 hope this helps Quote
richard0212 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Hi guys just a quick update having had the pipes replaced at a total of £456 i have been informed that i now need a new rack coz of the high pressure alloy pipe has corroded the metal rack and a new aftermarket rack i believe is £275-£300 plus labour. Quite a expensive job considering ive only had the car 4months althou it is 2nd hand Quote
paul.h Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 That price for an aftermarket rack is probably a reconditioned one and will likely require your old rack in exchange. Steering rack leaks seem to be an expensive common problem on the 2008 on C5. Quote
jaysams80 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Just discovered this on my 58 Exclusiv.Leaking from either the supply or return.Although Citroen tell you the seals aren't available and try and sell you the pipes at a ridiculous cost I have the part numbers for the seals. 400636 and 400638. Downside is they come in packs of 20. Cost around £30 in all. The rest are going on eBay.Unfortunately the new seals didn't work for me. Someone mentions somewhere the aluminium pipe corroding. Having felt around the pipe that may well be the issue as the flanged seat feels very rough, just like pitted ali would. Next step....new return pipe. (Thats the larger diameter silver pipe). Quote
ESL57 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 A top tip is to search around the commonly advertised Citroen dealers. Busy workshops have many of these packs of 10 and 20 items opened. The parts man will often post you a 1 or 2 off item. Quote
paul.h Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Maybe try to clean the pipe flange and use something like instant gasket on it and then the new seal - if it works then you know a new pipe will work. Quote
jaysams80 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I was told the same thing by all dealers within about 30 miles unfortunately. Paul I had contemplated that but with such tight access without removing the subframe it's virtually impossible. Worth a try if you can get the pipe off though. Quote
