Hi Guys,

If got a problem with my C5 2.0 HDI 8v.

It comes up with an engine management light and the anti pollution fault when starting and will tick over fine. The engine is not in limp home mode but at about 3,000rpm the engine cuts out.

I had the codes read and initially had.....

P1112

P0115

P1537

P0571

P1138

P0110

Then had them cleared and P1112 reappeared

I've tried a couple of things but to no avail, any ideas what's up?

Thanks

On here from the Petrol Diesel and LPG Injection section fault code lists:

P1112 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage

P1138 Lack Of HO2S12 Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich

P1537 Intake Manifold Runner Control (Bank 1) Stuck Open

P0110 IAT Circuit Malfunction

P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction

P0571 Cruise Control/Brake Switch A Circuit Malfunction

So possibly the MAF sensor is faulty since this usually contains the inlet air temperature sensor (IAT). I have read on here that if you do not replace it with a genuine part, sometimes pattern ones do not have the IAT and will continue to give problems.

P1138 showing a rich mixture at the lambda sensor could be a result of a faulty MAF giving the wrong mixture.

I do not know what the P1537 means, you could try a search on this.

The P0115 could mean the coolant temp sensor or its wiring or its electrical connector are faulty. This is often located at the gearbox end of the cylinder head.

P0571 - have you tried to use the cruise control and it has not worked ? If so, this could mean the brake pedal switch that goes to the cruise control is faulty. You may find there are 2 switches on the brake pedal lever and 1 of these is for the cruise control.

Thanks for the help Paul, it's really appreciated!

One thing I'm slightly confused on, why is it some fault codes have multiple meaning? i.e. other sources indicate P1112 can be Intake temp sensor low voltage OR Low diesel pressure should I ignore the second option and focus on the first as posted in the fault code section?

If the MAF wasn't working would it not just run in limp home mode? rather than stall?

Looking at P1537 and the IMRC looks to be a flap that opens/closes depending on the fuel/air mixture of the engine therefore if it was broken or stuck maybe it could starve the engine of oxygen and then cut out? does that sound logical?

I think different car manufacturers have different definitions for many fault codes so it usually pays to use the manufacturers diagnostic equipment or go to the dealer. Maybe you might be best to do this since you could end up replacing parts that are not faulty until you find the right one. If unplugging the MAF sensor makes no difference to the running then that could indicate a fault with it or its connector or wiring as it will put it in limp mode but you will probably get a fault code by doing this - you could also try cleaning it with something like carb cleaner.

You could also check the air filter is clean and maybe the fuel filter has recently been replaced.

On my 2001 2.0 HDi I had this intermittently. I eventually tracked it down to two sensor wires at the front of the engine. They had rubbed together over the years and were touching bare wires  - shorting the system and sending duff data to the ECU. Five minutes with a soldering iron and insulating tape and the problem was solved for nothing.
