My car has to be opened manually by key as the buttons on circuit board inside key are worn so no matter how hard you press the buttons it won't open the car. Any ideas how much to fix this problem? Also I only have the one key so I will probably need to buy a spare to.

Had the same problem when I bought my C4 in march of last year. brought it to my nearest dealer who ordered a new fob and programmed it in. alternatively you could take fob apart and see if it still works?? a new mould of the fob key could be bought online. any other questions give me a shout.

I had a new mould on eBay and that's great was cheap too. It's the the actual buttons on the circuit board that are worn so no matter how hard u press they won't work. How much was it to have a new one if don't mind me asking?

Ouch!!! I've replaced the battery in the key but I've been told because it's been off for a while it could need reprogramming?? I've seen online it can be done quite easy . Has anyone done this or does it have to go to a garage?

In your car handbook it tells you how to replace the key fob battery and then how to initialise it again. So no need to go any further than your car ignition switch.

You could check the battery with a meter for enough voltage.

This is Citroen's procedure for the keys and you may need to do section 4.

1. Remarks
When adding or replacing a vehicle key, it is necessary to perform the following operations :
  • Key programming procedure
  • Synchronise the high frequency remote controls
N.B. : The vehicle keys are allocated to a single BSI.
CAUTION : Initialising a new key will require all the keys to be initialised.
2. Diagnostic tools
"LEXIA 4171-T" station.
"PROXIA 4165-T" station.
"LEXIA 3" station.
"PROXIA 3" station.
3. Registering the keys
3.1. Initialisation procedure using the "LEXIA" diagnostic tool
Make the following selections in the diagnostic tool :
  • "DIAGNOSIS"
  • Select the vehicle
  • "GLOBAL TEST"
  • "BSI ECU"
  • "INITIALISATION"
  • "KEY INITIALISATION"
Follow the instructions given in the diagnostic tool.
3.2. Initialisation procedure using the " PROXIA" diagnostic tool
Make the following selections in the diagnostic tool :
  • "DIAGNOSIS"
  • Select the vehicle
  • "GLOBAL TEST"
  • "BSI ECU"
  • "INITIALISATION"
  • "KEY INITIALISATION"
Follow the instructions given in the diagnostic tool.
N.B. : The "PARAMETER MEASURES" menu can be used to check the number of keys initialised . The number of keys initialised indicates the total number of vehicle keys. The number of high frequency remote controls initialised indicates the number of high frequency remote controls synchronised.
4. Synchronise the high frequency remote controls
Perform the following operations :
  • 1 - Switch off the ignition and take out the key
  • 2 - Wait 1 minute without pressing the buttons of any remote control
  • 3 - Place the key of the high frequency remote control to be synchronised in position "ignition+"
  • 4 - Within 10 seconds, press the locking button for 5 seconds
  • 5 - Switch off the ignition and take out the key
  • 6 - Repeat the procedure with the other keys from point N°3, otherwise move on to point N°7
  • 7 - Wait 30 seconds, the remote controls are synchronised
Carry out a locking / unlocking test of the vehicle’s doors and tailgate.
N.B. : If the test for locking/unlocking of doors and tailgate is not correct, recommence the synchronisation operations for all the ignition keys that have a high frequency remote control.
