henshaw Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 After my 2.2HDi C5 mk1 was left standing for a fortnight and after a previous nights torrential rain I started out on a new journey. The car gave its warning sounds and said tyre was flat, ABS fault was stated and EMS system wasn't functioning and the ABS (round) symbol was lit together with a similar triangular one (not shown in hand book) so assume it deals with EMS.The tyres seemed ok before setting out but after another tyre warning stopped and found front tyre was indeed a bit soft. I assumed the other warnings had been triggered by the soft tyre. After blowing up tyre, no more tyre warnings but still have the ABS and EMS warning. Have turned off EMS and don't get warning nor trangular symbol (at top of water temperature display needle). Any likely simple cause of ABS fault message like dodgy electrical connection near wheel(s)? This has just suddenly appeared for no apparent reason. Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 they can go at anytime and don't give any warning signs. you could try bsi resets and check/spray all connections but your only real way forward is a diagnostic Quote
henshaw Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Is a BSI reset I can do without specialized equipment? The Haynes manual only writes about how to get it out or going to Citroen service dept. Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Is a BSI reset I can do without specialized equipment? The BSI reset is the same method that Citroen recommend for changing the battery. Here's the procedure:- Drop the suspension to low (to prevent the pump running when you refit the battery). Open the driver's window and remove the keys, close any doors. Wait a few minutes for the BSI to close down. Unclip the battery leads. Short them together through a resistance - a festoon bulb is ideal - for a minute or so. Short the battery leads together for a minute. Wait while you have a cup of tea. Replace the battery and clip the leads on. Do not open the door or otherwise disturb the car. Wait another few minutes. Reach in through the window and put the sidelights on. Wait a few minutes. Reach in and turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. Wait some more minutes. Start the engine and let it idle. Open the door, get in and operate the suspension buttons. If all is well then you will need to retune the radio, reset the time and date, reset autolights and maybe reset window controls. Quote
henshaw Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Master reset of the BSI as outlined above, didn't solve the problem. Want to clean the electrical plug on the ABS ECM as recommended in the Haynes manual. Haynes manual shows the one on a lower litre engine, but can't see anything on my 2.2HDi that resembles the picture 16.4 in section 9. Before checking the plugs and sockets on the wheel sensors and going to a Citroen dealer and shelling out money, I'd like to check the ABS ECM. Can anyone tell me where it is? Quote
