Kerry101 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 My wipers stopped working altogether this week, apart from the occassionally it does 1 sweep when the stalk is at 0 for some reason. I think it is the comms200 unit, indicators and audio work though. I am having an opeation in 5 weeks time which will mean I can't drive for up to 6 months and the dealership is quoting silly money for a new comms200 unit and I can't find the right part number anywhere locally or on the net. As a temp fix can I bypass the wiper controls by jury rigging a cable from the neg on the windscreen motor to a 12v toggle switch, then from the switch to the battery neg and the same on the positive, will this create a circuit so when I switch the toggle switch on the windscreen wipers work. I only need the wipers for the journey to work just in case it rains. I can work on a permanent fix once I have had the operation. The model is a 2005 1.85, old but I love it. Quote
madmadmax Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 get the part number of the comms 2000 and hit ebay, theres also a ebay seller who can fix some comms units. or i can give you the partnumber for the comms unit if you give me the last 8 digets of your vin number Quote
Kerry101 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks for the reply, the part number is 96496662XT, I have seen XT units but none have the same sequence of numbers, they all vary. I presume it has to be an exact match of numbers as well as being an XT model? Quote
paul.h Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 It could also be a faulty wiper motor or its electrical connector - do the rear wiper and the front/rear washers work ? This is from the C3 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic 27. Comms 2000 unit reset method to fix wipers/washers not working. This topic by vectratot includes a method to reset the comms 2000 unit after the wipers and washers stopped working http://www.citroen-o...ing/#entry82270 Quote
Kerry101 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks for your reply also. Yes the rear wiper and rear washer work fine. I do know that it will need a complete fix but I was really wanting to know if my bypass theroy would work as a temporay fix to get some wipers if it rains? Quote
paul.h Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 My first guess would be the wiper motor is faulty or its connection (particularly if it started to play up before it completely stopped working) rather than the comms 2000 so if you access the motor you could try a live feed to it to see if it moves. To get to the motor needs the wipers/scuttle removing and this is covered in the Haynes manual. The wiper motor is Citroen part no. 6405J3 and there is a new one for £40.50 here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-CITROEN-C5-01-08-MK2-FRONT-WIPER-MOTOR-0390241701-6405J3-0390241711-/261309399291and from citroencarparts.net is £59.06 so will be about this from a Citroen dealer. Kerry101 Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Right, if it is the motor then that wouldbe a lot less hassle. I have the haynes manual. Really appreciate that advise and the links as well for the part. I will go and have a look now becasue the rain has stopped finally. I will come back later when I have investigated it. Many Thanks.
