mark230678 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Have just bought a new trailer and have towed it 5 miles. However a mile into this journey had a braking fault alarm pop up. There was no change to braking capability and only seemed apparent when accelerating when the car would struugle to gain any speed.( Like a misfire)Anyway this disappeared after a few hundred yards and so did the fault, but very gingerly drove home, where the fault flashed up twice more.Dropped the trailer off and took car out for a few miles, without any problems.Any ideas as there was no problem braking. The trailer is braked could this be the issue, as to why it is difficult to gain speed causing the alarm pop up.Cheers Quote
kfk Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Have had problems in the past with C5 lacking power caused by rear ligh bulb filment touching on brake light filament. The action of side lights on causes the the brakes to get a voltage and send a message to the computers in the car......this will upset the abs /esp / injection sytame and suspension.....if auto can also cause it to have selection faults. So why might this be related? Go check your trailer wiring.....have you got a bad connection ....maybe you have a bad earth and its tryig to do it through the brake ight circuit? Do you have somewhere you might be able to try it without the trailer board connected? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Just a thought!!!!!!! But has your car been wired with a full bypass relay system for the road lights? I know some guys have wired their C5 in a conventional way but it is multiplexed. Quote
