This is for a CITROEN C4 SX 16V 5 DOOR HATCHBACK 1587CC 2006 PETROL MANUAL

Couple of weeks ago I went to start my car but it wouldn't turn over. Got it towed and a mechanic to look at it, turned out I needed a new fuse box for the engine. When I got the car back i noticed:

  • The key fob no longer operated the central locking

  • Every time I put the keys in the ignition it resets the console to French language and the units to km (I'm in the UK). I can manually set this back but when I switch the engine back on it resets every time.

I asked him about this and he says it is probably happened when I tried to jump start or bump start the car. He says that I'll probably need another new fuse box for the body ecu. The original repair cost me £232 and I'm keen not to spend this again.

Questions:

  • The mechanic says the engine fuse box needed replaced completely because the individual fuses couldn't be taken out and replaced, for the fuse box for the body ecu it looks like the fuses can be replaced. Is it possible that just changing the fuses might help?

  • I've tried to get a second hand fuse box but the dealers are asking for the part number (one of them asked for a 96 number), any tips on how to find this? I had quick look at the fuse box but couldn't see anything. I think it might be on the side of it which is difficult to get at

Welcome to the forum.

I suspect you did not use a Citroen dealer to fix your car and that if you had you may not have the current problems.

Citroen use different part numbers to those that may be on the parts by the manufacturer so looking at the fusebox may not help. You can see the Citroen parts diagrams as a free service on the service.citroen site and use your VIN (VIS) in the top left to find your car. Register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres  The fuse boxes come under Electric Unit / General Points / Units, connector boards, kits.

The remote may just need resynchronising to the car and this is detailed in the handbook for when its battery has been replaced and is noted below but if this does not work the keys may need initialising to the car using diagnostic equipment. To get the car to stay in miles and English if it does not do this when set via the radio menu, it may need a diagnostic to set this. I doubt that you need to replace any fuse boxes and would be tempted to not use that mechanic again. If you look in the engine fuse box you will see that the fuses can be replaced and your handbook lists them. If you do not have the handbook these can also be seen/printed/copied from the service.citroen site under Handbooks (or documentation de bord if you do not chenge the language to English).

4. Synchronise the high frequency remote controls
Perform the following operations :
  • 1 - Switch off the ignition and take out the key
  • 2 - Wait 1 minute without pressing the buttons of any remote control
  • 3 - Place the key of the high frequency remote control to be synchronised in position "ignition+"
  • 4 - Within 10 seconds, press the locking button for 5 seconds
  • 5 - Switch off the ignition and take out the key
  • 6 - Repeat the procedure with the other keys from point N°3, otherwise move on to point N°7
  • 7 - Wait 30 seconds, the remote controls are synchronised
Carry out a locking / unlocking test of the vehicle’s doors and tailgate.
N.B. : If the test for locking/unlocking of doors and tailgate is not correct, recommence the synchronisation operations for all the ignition keys that have a high frequency remote control.
