Hi i recently started to hear a buzzing/humming noise cumin from the engine after the ignition had been turned off. Never noticed it before until recently. Took it to a garage and they said that "Pipe on top of turbo vibrating when engine turned off and electric motor buzzing , remove plastic pipe which incorporates resonance chamber, vibration stops. But electric motor buzzing still present. Trace electric motor to turbo solonoid at rear of engine causing noise road, reassemble road test turbo working ok. Rung main dealer who informs them that the electric solonoid also controls ERG and that this is designed to still operate when engine is off and working as it should be.

Why though has this noise only started too become noticeable after i have been driven it for two years.

Can anyone maybe help as to why the noise has started, if the engine is doing what it should be.

Thanks everyone

Welcome to the forum.

An internet search suggests the egr valve is actuated for 10 to 15 seconds after the engine is stopped to clean it. Possibly it has become noisier if it needs a good clean or maybe some ducting is loose and also vibrating to make it sound louder.

What year and engine is your car ?

Hi, firstly thanks for the reply it's a 59 plate. Its a 1.6 Diesel.  The garage also said it could be working extra hard due to the short distances i use it for, mainly 20 miles a day at best, with the odd 100+ mile trip on occasions.
