henshaw Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 There are kits you can get to convert headlights using ordinary halogen lamps to using HID Xenon bulbs. However, how do I convert my HID Xenon headlights to using ordinary halogen bulbs? Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 There are kits you can get to convert headlights using ordinary halogen lamps to using HID Xenon bulbs. And unless the kits provide a washing system, they won't be legal and won't pass an MOT. However it's easier to change the other way. You'll need the two halogen headlamps with the correct bulb holders and the bulbs. The washer system could be left either working or not. Quote
henshaw Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 I have a car with Hid headlights with washer system. The pump has failed and it is difficult to find a cost effective replacement so I thought that if the current headlights could be converted to use ordinary bulbs then I'd do that. Can the original Hid headlights be converted to use ordinary bulbs? (Do the conversion kits that convert ordinary headlights to use Hid bulbs need new headlights as part of the kit?) Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The headlamps for the Xenon lit cars have different Citroen part numbers to those used on the halogen lit cars so presumably they are not interchangeable. And a quick comparison of the two cars shows the Xenon car with a projector type lens. The halogen car doesn't have that. Although I haven't compared the two, I would imagine the shape of the reflector is different, as would be the aperture to hold the bulb holder. Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Local breakers yard maybe a better/cheaper option Quote
henshaw Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 Unfortunately, they seem to be like hen's teeth. Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Only yesterday forum member PICASSOCONVERT sent his C5 off to the breakers. He lives in the Bedfordshire area but if you were to contact him he might know to which breaker it was taken. Quote
