Big_Dave Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Hello Everyone Help needed I have read the pinned post regards key fob not working and it doesn't seem to apply My wife has a C3 1.6 SV auto July/2006 20k milesA week or so back the remote central locking key became a bit hit and miss. ( new battery needed I thought)So I opened the key to identify the battery and ordered a new one, after I put the key back together it would not operate the locks at all.On receiving the new battery I fitted it to the fob and alas this made no difference, still no remote lock/unlock function. While I was pondering my next move the key fob fell to bits, it was a struggle to get the flip key blade back properly. So I bought a new fob with blank blade. Off I went to an auto locksmith who cut the key blade and transferrred the chip and electronics to the new fob, he then tested it with some gadget that I never got a proper look at, but when he pushed the buttons some lights flashed on his magic box.Great I thought and headed off home, tried the key... Still no remote functionToday I have tried resetting the BSI using the instructions elsewhere on here, and also a slightly different version On the BsiReman site.Still no luck... So I'm a bit stuck for ideas as for what to try nextAdditional Info:The car starts and runs fine, immobiliser not affected at allThe car has no other electrical or other defects apparent. The Central locking works fine off the button on the dash. The autolock function works fine.the auto childlock function works fineI do not have a spare key to tryI do not have the security card/Info for the carI have have written to the previous owner asking for these but as yet have had no contact from them.My next thought is to contact the supplying dealer as they serviced the car annually right up to this year, and see if I can get the Card/Info from them (hopefully for free)If I could operate the central locking from the door lock I wouldn't bother with this.Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. paul.h Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Welcome to the forum. When replacing the fob battery the remote then needs to be initialised. It has the procedure in the handbook and will be something like put the key in the ignition, turn it so the dash lights up and then immediately push and hold down the lock button on the remote until the locks work which may be about 10 seconds. When replacement remote cases are bought, the old key blade can be used by opening the key half way and pushing out the roll pin that holds it in place. Then do the opposite to fit it to the new case. Quote
Big_Dave Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Thanks for the reply,I have already tried the re-synching of the remote key, and it also was part of the BSI reset procedure detailed on the BBA Reman website.I'm thinking I'm going to need lexia to go any further :-( Quote
paul.h Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It may be worthwhile trying removing the fob battery and refitting it again and then doing the initialisation. A member with a C5 was having similar problems but then swapped the fob insides with the spare one and then they both worked. If this does not work you may be best going to a Citroen dealer since it could be a problem with the remote receiver on the car (or maybe a wiring problem such as between a door and the body) which could be built in to the steering wheel switch block but I am not sure. I would not bother with an auto electrician since they may not have the correct diagnostic tools and knowledge and there have been cases on here where this was a first choice for some members and then they were replacing ecu/bsi units and all sorts but still without fixing the problem. Big_Dave Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks for the reply Paul,Appreciate your advice, but I'm afraid for me the the Dealer is a last resort, I have little faith in them. If the diagnostic doesn't tell exactly what the fault is or its not a common one they've seen before, then they just start fitting parts (which I'd pay for) until the fault goes away.I mentioned this is my wife's car my own is 18 months old and has had an electrical issue since new, 3 dealers & 6 visits and its still the same.Previous cars of different makes have fared no better :-( I'm going to buy some Lexia/Diagbox kit, probably for about half what the Dealers will charge me for a simple diagnostic Thanks again Quote
paul.h Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 This Lexia topic from the C8 section may be of interest http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/23088-anybody-found-a-diagnostic-scanner-that-works-on-citroen-c8-22-hdi/ Quote
