Merlinmagic Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I would like to find out if anyone thinks that the more expensive diesel is better than the cheaper stuff and what do you find the benefits of using it are ? Thankyou granville Quote
paul.h Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 None of the well known oil companies have refineries in this country any more, having closed them or sold them. So the fuel has to come from the same places as the supermarkets except they may use different additives when the fuel goes to the garages. The more expensive fuels may claim to have benefits such as keeping the engine cleaner and giving a slightly higher mpg. My nearest premium diesel would involve a 10 mile round trip so any fuel saving benefits are lost by the extra miles to get it, so I usually use Sainsburys when getting the shopping. Quote
ESL57 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 IMO the top fuels have the best additives in them. I think it keeps the engine/injectors cleaner. Some say it gives better mpg. I haven't done the maths but I use branded fuel and if it is a BP or Shell garage, I go for the super duper stuff.....when they have it. I never use the supermarket fuel. I don't think my HDI 8V is that fussy mind you. Quote
MikeLane Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I usually use Supermarket fuel both in the UK and France and have found that I get slightly more mpg (around 60) in France than the UK (around 58). However, that might be because the roads are less crowded and so much better! Quote
paul.h Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Possibly it could also be a bit warmer in France so the engine does not need to warm up quite as much. Quote
MikeLane Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Possibly it could also be a bit warmer in France so the engine does not need to warm up quite as much.....and Diesel is much cheaper Euro 1.07 = 80p per litre!!! Edited November 4, 2015 by MikeLane Quote
fozzy Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 ues red x diesel it does the job :) keep a lookout in the supermarkets, Tesco did have it on offer at £2 bottle that's when I buy in bulk . Quote
MikeLane Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 "red x" Just read fozzy's post and it brought it all back. Out with the spark plugs once every three months, pour some Redex into the cylinders and wait overnight. Turn the engine over a few times (use loads of rags to soak up the Redex) and then fit the plugs back. Start the engine, ignore all the white smoke and drive it round the block a couple of times.Never need a decoke!! (What's a decoke I hear you ask!) Quote
