I have a c5 petrol 1.7 recently had a new starter from previous owners and I have just replaced the battery as I had issues sometimes starting it, always started with jump leads but now I get all ignition lights and nothing else I can't even here the starter ticking and jump leads don't work any idea ? It's an 02 plate

Check condition of earth comections but wouldnt be surprised if your starter was dead.

Also try the battery disconect reconect procedure detailed in the stickies. Just in case the bsi has thrown the imobiliser.

As well as above, if you have a volt meter, check for 12 volts at the starter large cable and when trying the ignition switch check for 12 volts at the solenoid to see if it is getting power. The engine earth cable is probably connected somewhere on the gearbox so needs its connections and condition of it checking.

Hi thanks for the replys

I've not had chance to get anyone out to look at the car yet so it's been sat there since Friday morning thought I'd just try and start her up today ( Sunday afternoon) and she started up no problems first time ?

Still have a look at the battery and starter connections in case one is loose and to check if the ignition switch is not always making a good contact and giving 12 volts to the starter solenoid. Was the starter motor recently put on a new one ?

You could also have a look in the engine fusebox to see if there has been any water ingress. In a December 2014 Car Mechanics article a 2005 2.0 petrol C5 would not start and it turned out the engine fusebox had failed (after replacing the coil pack, fuel pump and getting more fault codes). A new fusebox was £100 + vat from Citroen and fusebox failure is a common problem on Citroens and Peugeots.

Hi

I don't know if the previous owner put a new or a recon on tbh there's a box in the boot with the old starter in that's all Iknow she started up second turn of the key today so to me it seems like there's a poor connection somewhere but then I know nothing about cars
