My car was registered in April 05 and was registered to a Citroen Uk Head Office bod.

Now, the bloke got rid of it in December with around 18,500 miles on the clock.

It was serviced at this point also. I have the documentation to prove this.

Now, I popped into my Citroen dealer the other day and asked him if I could book the car in for a service in December.

I told him exactly what i have wrote above.

He then told me the service would cost £302 all in, but I didnt need it for another year or 40,000 miles, which ever comes sooner.

I was under the impression the service interval was 20,000 miles or 1 year, which ever comes first.

He appears to be saying its 20,000 miles or every 2 years.

Is this correct???

Im worried that if I dont have the service done and he is wrong, my warrenty will be invalidated.

Ive just had a good look through the service book, and it is every 2 years or 20,000 miles which ever comes first (for a petrol).

This is good, Ive just saved £300!!!

I may do an oil change though.

if it is 2 years or 20,00 mikes then why does the service countdown only go from 12,000 miles? :P

It probably doesn't. On our two HDI's, one counts down from 12500; the other from 20,000. In fact they both get new oil and filter long before that time comes.

Well, in my Citroen service book it says the 1.6 HDi's are 12500 and the 2.0 HDi's are 20000, so that clears that up!!!

And I agree, 20,000 miles for any engine is stupid.

I disagree :P

The manufacturers would not state 20,000 miles unless they thought that is all that is needed.

The improvements in oils and engines means less time spent at the dealer, which can only be a good thing.

It's one of the reasons I went for the C4.

Audi's on variable servicing can go up to 24,000 or more before servicing.

i still dont like more than 4000 miles between oil and filter changes, even by citroens say so.

oil is cheap, engines are expensive.

so its worth regular oil and filter changes with a good quality oil

No, they say that to appeal to the company car buyers.

That would mean I would have to change the oil and filter on a monthly basis!

I have owned cars before with 20k service intervals and rarely had a problem in between services and the cars have gone on to do over 100k.

I'd be amazed if a Citroen could last 20k without something falling off or ceasing to work.

your car would be on long journys so its all ways nice and warm, where as mines just short journeys 90% of the time and short journeys are'nt too good for your engine

the technicians are supposed to check service milage config on pdi. the intervals can be changed with diagnostic tool. you can also alter it depending on how the car is used. long runs, short runs etc.

What a load of b******s. I've been running Citroens since my first BXTZD in 1991. I kept that for seven years and sold it at 103K miles. Second was a 2.1 Xantia bought in 1998. That sold after 100K miles. The C5 is 18months and is at 14K. All three have been faultless, and the first two, after purchase, never went back to the garage, except to receive an MOT certificate.

The company I work for has a few Citroens, C5s and C4s all have been equally unreliable, so much so they have been dropped from the car list. Perhaps they can't cope with over average mileage.

I agree they look good and come with lots of toys but Citroen ought not to get ahead of themselves with technology and concentrate on build quality. I've never had a car which has had 4/5 recalls and 16 trips back to the dealer before.

could that be down to that its not their car so it gets abused?

where as if you buy it yourself the youll look after it?

That's a load of bollocks, I'm afraid. My C4 has been very reliable and I drive it around in extremely hot Australian weather in Sydney. I've done about 26000 kilometres (about 16300 miles) and it has been recalled once, though nothing to do with the drivability (just the airbag fix).

Ok, fine, it does have a few rattles - particularly in the bloody doors - but its nothing that serious. I enjoy driving it and the looks it gets from passers by. While the build isn't up to Audi standards, the finishing is pretty good.

As someone else said, if you hate Citroens so much go and buy a boring as hell Golf or Focus.

Could be true for some of them, but I look after my C4 as if I owned it. Cleaned regularly and driven with mechanical sympathy.

I will probably be ordering the new Mondeo in 2007 if it looks as good in the flesh as the launch photos.
