Hi,

Having only just become a C3 owner I'm really enjoying it so far.  (2005,1.4 Diesel, Desire)

My only complaint is that the FM radio seems a bit 'deaf' even on national BBC stations that are fine in our other car.  The radio appears to be factory-fitted, it's an Fm / CD unit made by Clarion and works with the steering column controls.

Examining the roof top aerial (please see attached photo) it doesn't seem in fantastic condition so I was considering replacing it.  My first question is; what's the knack to removing the existing aerial please?  I didn't want to force anything and break it.

Also whilst rumaging around in the back of the car my five year old managed to uncover a pair of little McDonalds finger puppets and.... a car aerial!    I have no way of contacting the previous owner so wondered if anyone here knew what it was?  Could it be that they too bought it as a replacement for the existing aerial, but couldn't manage to fit it? It looks to be brand new.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

The aerial on the car is not the correct one whereas the separate one looks like the correct one. It is quite possible the separate one is faulty and the previous owner suspecting a dealer supplied one may be expensive has put the aftermarket one on. If in doubt get a new one from a Citroen dealer using your VIN, they are only about £3 and cheaper than any aftermarket ones. Also there are different ones depending on the car and radio yet they all look the same. On our latest C3 it had an aftermarket one and the radio reception was poor but fitting a correct one the reception is now good. The aerial just unscrews but if tight you could try something like wd40 at the joint. I have read that BMW owners sometimes fit Citroen aerials since they are a lot cheaper than BMW ones.

See my similar ongoing topic for c5. The problem may lie in the antenna base, not the aerial "wire". You should be able to get a second hand base - they were fitted to a wide range of citroens and peugeots. My local scrappy had 7 on various cars. If you only have radio (no phone, trafficmaster nor integrated satnav) you only need one with 2 leads - the most common. One with 3 or 4 leads will do also, just dont use the extra coax cables. Simples.
