faoy Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi.Bought this citron C3 2003 with 41k kilometers. It had some knocking noise coming from underneath and I was guessing ball joint issues. Upon inspection I found a faulty inner tie rod which is not a big deal. Do I really need the special tool to remove or is there a way to work around? Quote
paul.h Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Welcome to the forum. From Citroen's procedures (below) it appears the special tool prevents further damage, so if it is expensive consider paying to have the track rod replaced, it is less than 1 hour labour , about 1½ hours including setting up the tracking afterwards. ESSENTIAL : The tool [ 2] - Steering rack anti-rotation device (-).0721 - should positioned on the gearing of the steering rack, on the left with Left Hand Drive and on the right with Right Hand Drive.N.B. : The tool [ 2] prevents damage to the steering mechanism during operations to remove-refit steering track rods. faoy Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 Thanks Paul. Its not the anti rotation device I was referring to but the track rod removal tool itself. The inner tie rod dome does not have a flat side/surface so I had to invent something. I am uploading a picture of the tool I managed todo from an old piece of pipe with three 6mm bolts at the far end. The pipe is positioned over the track rod and once the bolts are tightened the tie rod can be removed with an anti clockwise motion. Hope the picture helps. Quote
