Hi all im a new member and have recently just bought a Citreon C3 1.4 53 plate.  The clutch is very high on this car and have done a bit research and apparently this is normal so you guys hopefully can verify that.  I took it for a spin yesterday and the clutch is now slipping in high gears at high revs.  only done 40k miles as well.  So im gonna have a crack at changing it myself.  Iv done a focus and Renault 5 clutch before so I  know the difficulties.  Iv got a Haynes manual  which im gonna follow.

Right the questions I need answering are:

1.  Whats the best clutch to fit.  (70 valeo clutch from euro car parts. any good>???)

2 .  Are there any clutchs that will give a lower biting pont.

3 .  Any advice on problems and Im gonna encounter.

Welcome to the forum.

Is your car a petrol or diesel and what bhp is it ?

The high biting point is normal and after a few drives you should get used to it but the hydraulic fluid should be changed every 2 years as part of the brake fluid change and this may help.

I have not replaced a clutch on a C3 but Haynes manuals are usually good enough to follow.

It is possible the original clutch may be a Valeo one since some of the parts lists mention Valeo.

Do not disconnect the battery too quickly, the bsi needs time to shut down. There is a procedure in the C3 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic.

The 1.4 petrol 8 v I think is 75 bhp. Dirty hydraulic fluid probably would not cause the clutch to slip unless the slave cylinder was sticking due to dirt so the clutch did not fully release, it is more likely the clutch has worn out. Changing the fluid though will help smooth clutch changes but it should be changed when the brake fluid is changed every 2 years.

The bsi (boitier de servitude intelligent) is the cabin fusebox and is effectively the car's computer.

Check the Haynes manual but it should be 2 litres if drained out or less if only the amount lost by removing the drive shafts. Recommended oil is Total transmission BV, 75w80, Citroen part no. 9730A2. You might need a new seal for the drain plug (if undone) and the level/filling plug.
