delart Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Hi my C5 2.2 HDI snapped its cambelt at 120000 miles yesterday was but at 85k was told it had been done is it by any chance a safe head ? Quote
ESL57 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I think the followers will have broken at least. Shame really. People say belts have been done. The reality is that belts, tensioners water pump, the lot is best done when you get the car, unless you have real knowledge( is there such a thing?) of it being done. Quote
paul.h Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I would send a message to coastline taxis to see what damage may have occurred, I am sure he will have come across this many times. If the belt had been replaced at a Citroen dealer they will have a record of it you could check and it would be marked on the Maintenance and Guarantee guide, plus if done there or by another garage there would be a receipt for the work. Some/most owners who do their own maintenance also keep receipts for parts they fit to back up their maintenance records. If the belt and other bits had indeed been replaced but using aftermarket parts, they may not have the same life as ones from a Citroen dealer. In such cases the replacement interval would need to be adjusted since it may not be the Citroen 10 years or 160k miles if earlier (taken from a 2006 Maintenance and Guarantee Guide for normal service, 108k miles for severe service). Years ago timing belt replacement intervals were typically 40k miles or 4 years but Citroen's extended intervals are based on improvements to the belts but these improvements may not have been made to aftermarket ones. delart Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Hi thanks have pm'd coastline (but haven't heard anything) cam belt arriving Monday was thinking of fitting it if I can time up and try to start ? Quote
ESL57 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Take the rocker cover off and have a look at valve train first. Quote
delart Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Have took the plastic rocker cover off but can see very little, has anybody got a link to the timing for a 2.2 hdi? Quote
paul.h Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 What year is the C5 and the engine power - 136 or 173 bhp ? Quote
aspire_helen Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 The 2.2hdi head is not safe. Most of the rockers will have fractured , no question. Pointless thinking you can just fit a new belt. You will need a head rebuild or replacement, or it may be easier to fit a second hand engine. Quote
4rchibald Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 The 2.2hdi head is not safe. ...Is there a "safe" diesel head? I can't even think of any recent petrol engines with non-interference engines. I would say that depending on engine and car speed, repair will require as minimum new valves and guides, but pistons and con rods should be inspected as well. Quote
delart Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Just if anybody is interested, I have removed all the injectors took about half an hour so they are not all seized as most the hype seems to suggest  This was the main reason I was going just to put cam belt back on as it would prove the engine was done and it would be quicker/cheaper to change engine. delart Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Hi need some cam followers any other suppliers or is it best to just go to Citroen? Quote
delart Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Phoned Citroen and have been told they have changed the design of the rockers and have to be purchased with the tappets and clip so not cost effective, so need to find another supplier? Quote
ESL57 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Old stock from an Ebay seller is all I can think of. Maybe even in Europe somewhere. For new stuff try Mr Auto, AEP, ECP, GSF. Quote
delart Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Hi finally got rockers etc and car on lift but cannot find the crank timing hole found the one in flywheel have removed turbo pipe starter air filter etc sure it hasn't got one, do some of them use the woodruff key and the raised casting on the block to time under the pulley wheel ? Quote
paul.h Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 The service box procedures do not mention anything specific about the crankshaft pulley, so it must just rely on the woodruff key to keep it in the correct position and the flywheel locking tool so the crank timing is correct. Quote
delart Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 Hi got some rockers off ebay very good service timed it up off tdc gave up trying to find crankshaft marks it started and sounds fine haven't drove it yet so time will tell. Quote
