I am a blow in from Tasmania seeking help with issues with my 2006 C5 Hdi. When I recently removed the battery leads to charge up the battery I found that the radio would not work when it was was reconnected. The radio on the display is now 'greyed' out and there is no way to access the settings. Other than take it to the dealership and get charged an arm and a leg I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a fix? If it is a technical issue with the radio is it possible to replace it with another from a C5 or even a non OEM radio? Other ECU issues include a regular alert to say the 'depollution requires attention' when it is just as likely to vanish as quickly as it appeared, LHF tyre is low on air when I know it's not and none of  rear seat passengers have safety belts fastened when I have no passengers in the rear. Any assistance much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Easy one first - none of rear seat belts fastened. We get this on our C5 and seems to be normal for Citroens so is not a fault.

The low tyre pressure could be a faulty sensor. This may help from the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic:

26. Tyre pressure sensor failure.

This seems to be a particular problem on the mark 3 C5 (2008 on) where the valve stems can crumble. It is possible to just replace the stems with a repair kit for £9.99, ref Robhall77. See http://www.citroen-o...sor/#entry75957

Plastic caps instead of metal will also help.

This on battery disconnection is also from the Common Problems topic and could be worth trying. The radio might also have its own battery on its side which could be discharged. If you try another C5 radio it would need coding to your car, otherwise it may beep a lot.

16. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure.

If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3:

- remove the ignition key from the car

- open the bonnet

- wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down

- disconnect the battery negative terminal

When reconnecting

- ignition key out of the car

- reconnect the battery

- wait a few minutes

- insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute

- turn the key to the first position and wait a minute

- turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute

- start the engine

- take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch

- reset the clock (and radio on the C3).

To see what the depollution message means you probably need a diagnostic check but possibly the exhaust dpf is blocking up, how many miles/km has the car done ? It could also be another sensor that is failing.
