I have only had my Zsara a couple of days but how can I tell whether or not it has an alarm system. ??

I only have one key with it and went to have another made and the bloke told me he couldn't as he would have to have the car there too as he reckons the key has got to be matched with the car as it has a transponder in it. is this true or is he making excuses ? My car is a 1.4, 99 model and to me they key looks just like a normal on to me with molded plastic on with no screws in it.

Citroens do not normally have an alarm as standard, just an immobiliser which needs the key to have a transponder chip in it. The chip has to be matched to the car or it will not work. If you dismantle the key case you should find a little plastic bit in it which is the transponder and if you change the key case with one from a supplier on ebay,  it should be put in to the new case as well as the key blade. if it has central locking, the chip may be part of the circuit board in the case and this can also be moved to a new case. If you order a new key from a Citroen dealer using your VIN it should come with the chip already to match your car.

If you look at the parts diagrams with your VIN and under Characteristics it will say if your car had an alarm when first built. The parts diagrams are a free service if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club on service.citroen http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp
