danjosh Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Hi I have a 57 reg C4 Xsara Picasso Exclusive 1.6 diesel. Lovely car.The passenger side door mirror was damaged by a van. Casing broken & mirror crackedThe price of a new one from Citreon is very high but i managed to by a new unit, but not OEM, at a much better price Problem i now have is that the new one doesn't have the kerb (puddle) light fittingI suppose i could take out the old kerb light and fit it into the new one However, the new unit comes with new wiring and so i will be a connection short inside the new one Question is, if i fit the new one and ignore the kerb light will this still be compatible with the existing car wiring. I hear horror stories of cars not starting, computers being messed up etc when making changes like this (pal of mine has a Punto which had problems) Any help would be appreciated Pete Quote
paul.h Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 You could remove the door card and connect up the new mirror to see what happens. If it does not work then connect up the old one. Did the supplier say the new mirror was compatible with the car ? I have found before that copy parts do not always fit or work as well as dealer supplied ones and unless the cost difference is great, no longer do it. Quote
danjosh Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 Hi PaulThink you're right, will bite the bullet and buy the genuine articleThere's an awful lot of work taking the panel off etc just on the off chance it's OK Thanks for your reply Quote
paul.h Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 The panel has to come off anyway to fit the mirror, so I would remove it, try the new mirror and if it does not work then leave the panel off until you have a mirror you are happy with which if a dealer order will likely be 1 or 2 days (if you are not in a hurry, a dealer may be able to get the part cheaper and offer you a lower price, so worth asking). You could always try for a used one through ebay Quote
danjosh Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Yes, will keep looking at ebay for a few more days. Thank you for your advice Quote
paul.h Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 On ebay do not just look for a mirror, search for a C4 Picasso breaking. Many breakers list a wheel nut and then you can get in touch for the other parts, probably saves listing everything but may also avoid ebay's cut of the proceeds eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C4-Picasso-2-0-hdi-EGS-breaking-wheel-nut-/222034654359 Quote
