Hey folks,

New member alert!!!! I have already posted a few times in other areas of the forum, but thought it was high time I introduced myself.

Well I am a lover of Citroen's (obviously) having previously owned 3 and we bought one for my mum a few years ago, so in reality it is 4.

We bought a pre registered (65 plate) C3 Picasso Blue HDI with 14 miles on the clock in between Christmas and New Year after our C4 Picass went bonk. Loving the new car and it is coming up for it's first 1000 miles. A good friend of mine who owns a C3 Picass himself as well as lots of diesel cars in the past has recommended that we take it for a oil change as it is a new engine and all the metal fragments from the engine will be swirling around. To my mind it kind of makes sense to have this oil flushed out and some fresh put in. What does everybody else think?

Personally I think its a great idea, and change your oil at least twice as often as Citroen suggest for this engine, if you change it every say 6k it will live far longer, but every 9k (I think they say 18k miles max) is good. The last time I bought a brand new car the service interval was every 18k miles, changed it myself every 6k instead and it performed and sounded like new 3 years and stacks of miles later. Service intervals are for fleet users, not private buyers using their hard earned and looking to keep it for several years. My mums DS3 VTi still sounds like new following that regime and they are known for noisy timing chains. Buy your oil online to the right spec (way cheaper) crucial for the 1.6 HDi and get dealer/manufacturer filters just in case of warranty claims.

It used to be normal to change the oil/filter after about 1000 miles but not any more, then it became a quick check of the car and now nothing until the first service. As pointed out this may be to keep fleet car costs down since if a private customer you probably would pay and increase your dealer's income.

Since your car is under warranty you would need to get your dealer to do it since if anything goes wrong you would need to show VAT receipts, etc as part of your claim against Citroen.
