rpsamme Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 My car was in for a service yesterday and when it was raised the rear suspension was leaking. The mechanic had a look and has told me the hydraulic suspension cylinders need replacing. He rang the Citroen dealership in Jersey and they advised it would be about six weeks to get the parts (part number 527272 and 527271) and they were quoted at around £150 each. I have had a look on the usual car parts sites I use and it looks like UK sites dont stock them. I have found on them on Russian and Ukraine sites but am reluctant to order. Can anyone recommend where I might be able to get these parts? Quote

paul.h Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 If it is a supply problem from Citroen you could consider used parts. An ebay search on C5 breaking came up with this as an example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-Diesel-HDI-Estate-2002-Breaking-for-Spare-Parts-/252312629290?fits=Model%3AC5&hash=item3abf01302a:g:jEUAAOxylpNTVUuB Unless the leaks are bad, there is not really any rush to fix the car. I had a slight drip on a rear strut from the end of the gaiter. I tried a new gaiter but in the end needed a new strut but from finding the leak to replacement was around a year but it only dripped a bit now and again. Quote

aspire_helen Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Oil stains on the rubber gaiter do not necessarily mean the cylinder ram is leaking and light leaks can be regarded as normal. For example, other forums have discussed that a Citroen-knowledgeable MOT examiner should not fail an MOT for oil stains on the gaiters. The gaiter is designed to contain fluid. It may just be the gaiter that is leaking (less than £10 on Ebay). Indeed, when replacing the gaiters you are required to pre-fill them with a specified amount of hydraulic fluid. It seems to me that if the ram seals are actually leaking , the fluid will leak into the gaiter and be returned to the reservoir via the integral return pipe. What I do before each MOT is to wipe the oil stains off the gaiters to avoid a failure. As mentioned above, if you have a serious leak the suspension will drop somewhat (eg during overnight parked). I also believe ram sealing kits are available should you be DIY minded. Quote
