calumkeith Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Hi all, When I remove the keys from the ignition on my C2 GT, the engine keeps running. The headlights remain on, although the rear ones do not. The dashboard lights also stay illuminated and the only way to ensure these are off, is to disconnect the battery. When i have the engine running, to actually turn the engine off i have found that pressing the brake pedal seems to cut it out. This works although within 5 - 10 seconds the dashboard lights then light up again. I have searched and searched the internet and currently have reasons to think it may possibly be something to do with the ignition switch. I have been to the local scrap yards and found a possible replacement although the switch and cables are for the C3 model not C2. The key is required to release the ignition barrel allowing the switch and cables to be released and the scrap yard does not have said keys. Is there anyone who could possibly be able to advise me on what to do, or even how to remove the switch. I have attached a couple of photos showing the stage i have got to in removing the switch. The main problem is extracting said switch through the barrel. Thank you in advance for any attempts to help me with this topic. Thanks, Calum K. Quote
paul.h Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Welcome to the forum. Rather than an ignition switch fault, it might be a problem with the bsi (cabin fuse box) or the engine fuse box. I would be tempted to ask a Citroen dealer for an opinion before doing anything. Quote
MikeLane Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Before you do anything more, just squirt a good dose of switch cleaner (or WD40) down into the switch barrel through the keyhole and work the key in and out a few times, turning it to the "igntion on" and "off" positions. It could be (as it was with my Xantia) that the switch is gooed up and sticks "on".If it doesn't help then you've lost nothing, but if it does..... Edited April 5, 2016 by MikeLane Quote
