jaysams80 Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 So, for the first time since buying the car second hand I used the towbar. Its factory fitted as it cancelled out the reverse sensors. Only problem is when it was unplugged/unhooked it has somehow left the reverse sensors disabled and the indicators are rapid flashing. It's as if it's still detecting a trailer. When I plugged the trailer back in all the indicators worked as normal. All the bulbs are fine and all the fuses associated with the lights, reverse sensors are fine.Anyone have any other ideas? I also get no rear wiper when engaging reverse, the sensor disable button on the dash is not lit and there is no audible signal when engaging reverse. Is there an extra fuse i've missed? Have I blown a flasher unit? Quote
paul.h Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 If you look at the towbar to trailer connector electrical socket, there may be a spring loaded pin that is pushed in as the trailer plug is connected (12N or 13 pin type). This then disconnects the rear fog light/etc - check to see if this pin has stuck in and needs a bit of help to free it off. Best not to try this with something metallic in case you connect a permanent positive to an earth in the socket and blow a fuse. Quote
jaysams80 Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 Top man. I had found out there may be some sort of micro switch (spring loaded pin as you put it). I'll inspect it tomorrow. Many thanks. Quote
jaysams80 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Sorted. Exactly as paul.h said. Thanks for that. One more question though...is it a straight swap when fitting a new micro switched socket or does it need some kind of configuring to the Canbus? Quote
paul.h Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I have only seen one socket with this pin on. At the back of the socket the pin was connected to a simple metal contact (and not a micro switch) that was pushed apart when the trailer plug was inserted. Possibly spraying with wd40 might be enough to free it up without taking the back off the socket. I can not imagine any configuring will be needed or any new bits, just a clean up of the parts. It could even be the wiring in the back of the socket is getting in the way of the pin and needs moving a bit. Quote
jaysams80 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 The rubber boot on the back had perished and all kinds of muck had got in there. WD40 and some tapping with a pin hammer cleared it all out and it's now released.Local garage said it'll £40 to change it and configure it.....maybe they are after a quick penny.Think I might just replace it with a standard socket and turn the sensors off on the dash. Cheers for the help. Quote
