laymon Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Hi New to this site and new to Citroen.I have recently bought a C5 estate - quite high mileage. Drove approximately 1200 miles and lost all hydraulic oil resulting in no suspension. I put the car in garage and was told the steering rack was the problem and would need to be replaced, picked up the car yesterday having been told that it was ready, only to be informed that there was an electrical fault which they could not fix. This fault was causing lack of power intermittently when driving, also the engine management light was on as well as several other warning lights, along with the lights and wipers coming on of their own accord whilst the car was parked and locked. I have now placed the car with an auto electrician who as cured most of the faults other than the loss of power.I wish I had seen this site before now. Having read various threads could the fault on my car be caused by a faulty battery ? HELP please Quote
paul.h Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Welcome to the forum. I guess your car is the 2008 on model since a leaking steering rack is a common fault on this one. If the electrical faults were not there before the steering rack was replaced, then maybe the garage doing the repairs caused the battery to go flat. A low battery voltage can give odd electrical problems and a check of its voltage should be made before anything else is replaced. Before starting the car it should be about 12.5 to 12.7 volts and once running about 14.4 volts. If the car is more than about 5 years old chances are it will need a new battery anyway, so buying a new one is unlikely to be a waste of money. If it has the electric tailgate it has been mentioned on here that a low battery voltage can stop it working. If the engine management light is on then there will be fault codes stored. If you have them it would help if you can post them on here but it is possible a low battery voltage could be a cause. Quote
