That sounds like it. If it is a diesel, it might be Citroen part no. 1131C5 with a copper gasket 698870 but these should be checked using your VIN. If petrol the part nos. are different depending on the VIN.

For the 2.0 hdi 90 bhp engine from the service box procedures the injectors are held by a single nut holding the injector clamp in place. So it is a  case of disconnecting the battery (procedures always say this, but if it is necessary I do not know), disconnecting the injector electrical connector, removing the fuel return pipe from the injector, undoing the fuel pipe unions using 2 spanners so the pipe does not twist, removing the injector clamp nut and clamp. Then if you are lucky the injector will pull out - if not the procedures say to remove the clamp stud and then apply a spanner in the injector cut out to lift the injector out. Open fuel pipes should be plugged to keep dirt out.

It says the clamp nut, the injector seal and the injector sealing ring should all be renewed. When refitting, fully tighten the clamp nut (30 Nm) and fuel pipes (25 Nm) once they are all in place.

If more than 1 injector is being removed then when fitting the following is given:

4. Refitting
ESSENTIAL : Replace the removed diesel injection high pressure pipe(s).
Remove the diesel injector well blanks.
Refit :
  • The clamp locating shims ( 8)
  • The injector seals (6) (new)
  • The injector sealing rings (7) (new)
  • The diesel injectors (5)
  • The clamps (9)
  • The clamp cups (10)
  • The clamp nuts (11) (new) (without tightening)
Refit the diesel injector high pressure supply pipes as follows :
  • Fit the diesel injector pipes for cylinders 2 and 4
  • Tighten the unions on the diesel injectors and on the fuel high pressure common rail by hand to the end of the thread
  • Tighten the injector fixing nuts (11) of cylinders 2 and 4 to 3 ± 0,3 m.daN By means of tools [1], [4] and [5]
  • Fit the diesel injector pipes for cylinders 1 and 3
  • Tighten the unions on the diesel injectors and on the fuel high pressure common rail by hand to the end of the thread
  • Tighten the injector fixing nuts (11) of cylinders 1 and 3

Advice needed again!!!

a hissing noise has developed from behind the engine, somewhere near the end of the pipe that comes out of the egr valve to the left. Only under acceleration in normal driving conditions.

I've poked my hand behind and comes out with black exhaust gas on.

will it be that pipe or something else.?

also, best procedure to replace
