Hi. My brother has a 2001 Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol. Great car to drive but recently seems to be having electrical power problems. We believe it needs a new starter motor as occasionally it does quite catch on first turn of the key. Recently fitted a new battery to eliminate any problems from that area -- the old one was tired. I have the Lexia diagnostic which repeatedly throws up the following messages.

- Interniittent fault EOBD or engine ECU

- Intermittent fault Low fuel information short circuit +ve

- intermittent fault Alternator

- Intermittent fault Engine Speed sensor

All the faults clear without any problems but frequently return for no apparent reason!

Currently trying to trace the engine earth lead to check the condition of the cable and connection.

Any ideas on causes would be most appreciated to keep the old girl running.

This might be nothing to do with it but we had a 2.0 hdi Picasso and the engine cover rubbed on wiring at one side so I cut a bit off it to avoid future problems. The cover mountings also seemed to fail so something also to check.
