Checking the oil I replaced the dipstick to take a new reading . When I removed it 3/4 of the plastic end had fallen off!!!

I realise this will not go anywhere but I have 2 problems:

1]. How do I remove the plastic bit?

2]. How do I find the oil level?

Any help welcome.

The car is a Citreon C3 automatic 02 reg.

If its a petrol model it will probably fall into the sump and sit harmlessly in the sump, it might even come out on the next oil change......even if it stays in the engine its not going to do any damage.

Assuming the plastic tip has fallen into the sump the new dipstick should slide straight in the hole.......obtainable from your citroen parts department.

If its a diesel model the plastic tip will no doubt have jammed in the tube and will require the sump to be removed to remove the bent bit of tube and then tip out the broken tip........you wont be able to force the new dipstick down because of the old tip obstructing it.

Thanks for reply.

It is a petrol model. 1.4 auto.

I was thinking of putting a small amount of glue on the tip and pushing it back in the hope it would stick to the broken end, and after a couple of hours pull the "complete" dipstick out. Then of course buy a new one.

This may sound a stupid question.

Does the auto gearbox have a sump?

Forget it! For it to stick, both surfaces must be scrupulously clean. Both your surfaces will be covered with oil.
